Hi guys!

Wich gpu should i get?

I want to be able to play at 1680 x 1050 at all/most settings at the highest and be able to get a decent/good fps now and in the future (ok games like crysis might not be possible but you get the point)

Now my options are:

9800 gtx
9800 gtx sli (or will 750w be enough??)
9800 gx2
3870 x2

Which one should i get?

Thanx!

For that res I'd get an 8800 GTS 512.

That or a 9800gtx would do just fine... agreed.

You should get none of those. Unless you really want one of them. What is your budget? at that res I would say get an 8800GTS 512mb (there is one at 200bucks after MIR on newegg)

or get 9600gt's in SLI. perform almost at the level of GX2. They scale really* well. You could even go for an 8800gt, but at the price of the GTS, I would get that instead.

Allright, hard to choose :) well my budget is about 500 € , im not sure how much it is in dollars, but useless to count because the pirces are more excpensive here in Finland than in the USA and UK and so on...

2 x 9600 sounds pretty good, or what about 2 x 8800 gts 512?

You don't need 2 8800 GTS's for your resolution. 1 is plenty. If you really want to screw around with sli than 2 9600GTs. Spend the money elsewhere; more graphics power is overkill for your needs as they stand. A single 3870 would even do you fine.

yeah, save the money for a new build or something. save it for nehalem.

Ok thanx for the info. Will probably get one 8800 gts 512 or 9800 gtx.

i would also pick an 8800 GTS over a 9800 GTX. there is too small a performance difference for the price.

Cool, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. You can always add another one in the future too as your needs dictate...

its all about amps, not watts. and yes that 750 should be fine. a 520hx would be enough to power two GTS's.

What are amps :woot:

The ampere, in practice often shortened to amp, (symbol: A) is a unit of electric current, or amount of electric charge per second

i think of it as a measure of electron flow-rate in the wire (analogous to water in a pipe)

more amps per unit time = more power.

thicker wires can carry more amps.

you really want a 12V rail with good number of amps. That is what is important in a psu.

EDIT-beat to it..

Well on Thermaltakes website it says that it supports sli :)

Nvidia will certify a litterbox for SLI if it could.

But that PSU should be fine for SLI/Crossfire (so long as it isnt 2900xt, 8800Ultras or a pair of x2/gx2 cards). It is the amperage on teh 12 rails that matter...correct.

PS- I would be a little nervous running 2 GTS 512s on an Corsair HX520...

I know a guy who ran dual GTS's OC'd and a 4ghz q6600 for benches on one. and 3.6ghz daily. on a 680i A1 board. with... id say 4 hdds and two opticals. He never had a problem.

That PSU, though a good one, is 40A one 12v rail. You should only run about 75-80% capacity on a PSU so taht puts it in the 30a range which he was pushing. Im sure it did fine... I wouldnt do it for long if I could afford another, better for the job at hand, PSU.
