Hmm, so that's a quadcore @ 32nm?! That L3 cache sure takes in a lot of space :wth:

1€ coin is 23.25mm in diameter so the die is around 13.3mm × 19.1mm = 254mm^2.
MichelinGuy,
It's 45nm, not 32nm.

Could have got a less scuffed coin to put next to it, not quite the shiny US ones they usually use in these shots!

Looks like Shintai was way off on this being an under 200mm^2 chip.

you don't seem to know how processors are made, do you? (no offense intended  )
at first many of such DIEs you see in this thread are made on one wafer (http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=wafer_2_zoll_bis_8_zzn0.jpg). then they are cut out and you get single DIEs which are then assembled on a PCB (and most get an IHS afterwards).
so these little buggers are just one step away from being usable processors

Gonna need a new waterblock.
FFS, that is enormous. I can just imagine the price!
Just from inspection it doesn't really look any bigger than current quad cores, just this is one die isntead of two.
We really should compare it to the size of a k10 die, that would give us a better representation of where it should be at

Barcelona: 283 mm²
Nehalem: 246 mm²
Shanghai: 243 mm²
Things are getting smaller, definitely. :D

not really more than a quad intel now.
but you need a new block anyway -> new socket. :p: (at least a new mounting kit :D )

I hope D-Tek or someone else releases a socketB FuZion mounting kit :p:

Right. I don't want to know how much heat this many transistors will dump if overclocked. Still, me wants!

cant be worse then a phenom. :D
true, but deneb will be smaller, not to mention propus will be among the smallest quadcores out yet (including total yorkfield die size)

Would be nice if you could buy defective single die's or even a whole wafer.
A whole wafer would be too large as a coffee mat

Yeah I'm thinking that chip is gonna get toasty :)
Aside from needing a new nozzle arrangement is that thing going to end up longer than a single dimension of the fuzion?
