Whatever happened to that? The thought was raised to me today and was wondering, what happened? Where's gray? Didn't he have the money?

Probably in the distant future. IIRC he still hasn´t got his life back on track and still has lose ends which he has to tie up first.

I would like to know what exactly happened with the money aswell.

What about the info/story/rumor that went about that cos it's been so long and by the state law to where he is located after XXX time he doesn't have to pay a thing back?

Statute of limitations - It is different from state to state, but every time he promises to pay someone the clock starts over for that person.
