got the board yesterday, and I have really strange isues... haven't been with asus in a while, and the bios is like foreign language to me...
here I go: q6600 (g0) is seen by cpu-z at 6x266, no matter what...
I've tryed manual setings, and I get resets anywhere over stock...
there must be some trick I forgot to enable/disable...

cpu: q6600
cooler: zalman 9700nt (arctic as5)
mobo: asus p5k-e
ram: 4x1g a-data extreme
gpu: gainward 8800gt 1g
hdd: wd 3200aaks
psu: sirtec 620w
case: antec p180

The reduced multiplier is a effect of Intel's SpeedStep technology.
Get into the BIOS, get into the "CPU Configuration" menu and disable C1E & EIST ( or Intel SpeedStep tech ) [ Asus's engineers change the options names from BIOS to BIOS release ] { the only useful thing they do...apart from introducing new bugs with each new version :p: }

yup

Although some of the P5K-E bios`s wont allow speed step to be disabled.

There is an Official P5k-E thread.
Read it.

So they didn't introduce this bug for the P5K3 Deluxe only then :p:
Bogus!

you guys crack me up!
I had limited options when I picked this board out.
I've managed a 350x8, for now... It doesn't like fsb:400, no matter what! I know you say it's cause of the 4 stick's of ram, but i tell you I've done it before with this chip, on abit's ip35pro, at 2,1v and 1,4v nb.
should I go for 1,55v? how hot does the nb get? I have real 4 high cfm (78 to be exact) in the antec p180... would it be safe?
by the way, the on-board audio rocks!

Put a fan over the NB heatsink and go for 1.55 and up to 1.7V for the northbridge.
Should increase your max FSB limit quite a lot.
Oh, and try 401MHz FSB instead of 400MHz ;)

Oh, and the values you've set at Vfsb ( FSB Termination Voltage ) and Vpll ( PLL Voltage ) [ I don't remember if it's available on this board ]

What Bios are you using?
Certain Bios are no good.

602, 603, 1004, and 1006 are the only good bios for Q6600 on this board.

thanks fella's! just pushed it to FSB:401 (still x7 multi)... glad to be out of the FSB hole!
Cpu temp 30/30/23/25
Mb temp 24
Cpu volt: 1.325v (1.264v CPU-Z)
Cpu PLL: 1,5v
FSB term.: 1,3v
NB volt: 1,4v
FSB strap: auto
now the strange thing is that the cpu temp went down 2 deg. at idle, at load goes to the same 50/50/45/45...
how can I read the NB temp?

btw bios ver. 806?! what do you know of it?

806 is one of the worst bios.
Huge Vdrop, and WiFi - cant disable.

806 is why you are having troubles overclocking.
Dump it and go either 1004, or 1006.

As far as I know NB temp is the motherboard temp.

Wifi ok by me, but about the Vdrop, how unsafe would a 1,425v CPU be, runing 8x401 24/7?
Kept reading, and it seems that every bios has some s4!t messed up... and as far as I got here (stable and all), would it hurt bad to leave it as it is? I don't like the bios update thingy...

With proper cooling 1.42v isnt unsafe.

Just seems too high for a low clock and I`m sure that you can do better with less volts going to 1004, or 1006 bios.

Updating the bios is easy on these boards.
just download the bios file extract it and put it on a USB pen, boot into bios, and use asus EZ flash in bios to update from the usb stick.

What is the VID of your cpu?

Dan_c

G0,VID 1.325... had it at 8x400 with 1,4 on two diferent boards...
now I've tryed 1,4125 at 401x8. temps are max.49, runs prime for 30min. then suden reboot... almost stable! and I think it's needs 1,42
I might flash, but I need to reed on it.

thx rocket

Nothing.
It's a unused sensor ;)

kewl then untick it....so mobo doesnt have any PWM or SYSTEM temp?

BenchZowner

THat's from the IP35-E on your sig I take it.
Abit's been doing this for quite a long time ( I remember that from the nFORCE 4 era for the Athlon 64s )... the top model had everything...lots of sensors...PWM, CPU, NB, SYS... while the mid-end and low-end models had CPU + SYS :p:

Well, the same kinda applies to Asus as well ( not every time though :p: )
For example they shipped the Commando with 3 on-board temp sensors, and 3 extra sensors on cable extensions... but they didn't do the same with newer high end models...neither with lower end ones :p:

ok, I'm stable so far at 1,42v CPU, temps look good (not as good as I expected, but ok)... 15277 3D marks with stock GPU
NB is hot as hell, RAM (4 sticks of A-DATA, at 2,15v) hot too... some more fine tuning needed

Dan_c

new rigg stable now, with CPU at 3,2...
1,42v on CPU, temps at 33-35 idle, 52-55 full load...
NB at 1,4v, with the RAM on 2,1v (5,5,5,15 802Mhz)...
thx guys for all ia help!
