I recently setup my new comp with asus formula maximus (0907) E8400 with Ultra 120 Extreme.. but im kinda worried about NB and SB temps.. i just checked em with Asus PCProbe and they are at middle/highs 40º.. from what temps Intel X38 NB & SB become unstable?
with just two 4x4 fans can be fixed? sb and nb heatsinks come with good termal paste? or its a must to put AS5?
Greetings!

Intel thermal spec for x38 chipset is rated ~90c to be max. It can take volts up to ~1.9v. If I'm wrong in either one of the above points, pls let me know.
From what I've being reading, keep it under 60c as your max. Over 60c you may start to experience system instability.

Ookey so people saying 45 to 50º are cause of stability problems are not right, correct? Just wanted to be sure.. i dont wanna panic and start dismounting, buying heatsinks + fans, etc for nothing :p

I have 61 degrees without instabilities....However the CPU is at 30 degrees idle , 48 under load and the mainboard has 40 degrees so why the NB and the SB have 61 is something that evades me.

Hellas same sh1t here! i have my e8400 at 39º idle 50 or like in full OOCTP (ultra 120 xtreme with Silenx 120) and well cooled LianLi pc71 and dunno why NB and SB are that hot :S

The fact that you're having your CPUs running cool doesn't make your NBs & SBs cool running chips.
They generate their own heat when operating ya know.
With the stock heatsinks Mid 40°s are fine.
And of course as you raise the NB/SB voltages their heat dissipation gets higher as well.
You just need a fan over the NB to lower its temps.

Time to add some 4x4 fans so :D
Thx for the tips guys :D

Asus must be pushing the voltage on AUTO...
Whats the recommended Voltage for the NB and SB ?

The motherboards raise the CPU/FSB/PLL/NB/SB voltages as you overclock the FSB if you've them set at Auto.

Yep Benchzowner is correct... 400FSB on my Max SE corresponded to 1.61 volts, way too high... also with ya TRUE's and sortlike CPU coolers no fresh air is blown to PWM's and NB... I installed a Zalman 8700LED on my friends rig ans his temps stay at 40°C for NB and 43°C for SB under load with a Q6600@3.6ghz (CPU temps though 65-68°C for the cores)

So whats the best voltage for it ? 1.55 ?

1.5 is good for 500fsb no need for more than 1.45 anything less unless you running 4x1
i need 1.58v @ 500fsb to run pl7

so for my specs even 1.45 should do the trick ?

Updated: i set recently 5x5 revoltec fan on NB Chipset zone and still have some high temps.. any recommended NB Chipset cooler considering i dont have much space with Thermalright ultra 120 xtreme and 8800GTS??

OCed to 400FSB..2 fans on NB Heatsink and 44º idle.. this temps by Asus PCProbe are correct? or wtf
