Yesterday my windows starts to act funny and hanged. So i hard reset the system. The system is then stuck at the post screen, not responding to any keyboard command. Resetting the bios or removing all expansion card, testing with different RAM yields no results. It is funny because 30 min before the board failed, I was doing some gaming with no signs of instability. there is no burnt smell either.

So I RMAed the board and and bought the exact same board to prevent re-installing windows since I have major assignments due. With the new board installed, everything works again perfectly.

My case has good airflow (P182) and the board is not overclocked. Does motherboard just fail like this out of sudden?

Yep it can happen. Had it happen to the parents' PC once. Randomly froze up once and that was the end of it. Had worked flawlessly up until then.

I'd say capacitor or MOSFET died, maybe something loose just fell out... I wouldn't worry about it.

This would happen a lot back in the "Pressy" Pentium D days, as a juice sucking P-D and a pair of 7800GTXs SLI'd would cause a lot of stress on the mobo...
look at the old THG "Stress Test Video"
