i'm presently waiting for my tax return to grab myself an X2. when i get one, i will want to overclock, but the present air cooling market has no solutions for it. looking at the Thermalright HR-03GT, it does fit the card but it has to wrap around the pcb and the other cooler would have to face downward.would this work in keeping the cores cool enough for a 920+ core oc?
heres a pic of one cooler wrapping around the card.
EDIT: a quick run with paint and i think that i found a dam good cooler for it. the Thermalright V2 is strong enough to handle an X1900XT, so she wont have any problems with the RV680. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t135/BigCharb/3870x2.jpg

According to the Thermalright website the V2 is incompatible. Im in the same boat atm and finding a cooler for them is limited.

Mod 2 cheap CPU coolers and you're set :)
Why not just get a 3870x2 which already has a non reference cooler.
GeCube 3870x2 Turbo / Asus with its blackish cooler are good.

I'm not crazy about taking a functional HSF that exhausts air out of the case and replacing it with one that dumps the heat load in the case - especially a dual core GPU that's OC'ed. Maybe try the stock cooler and goose the fan with Rivatuner first. I have a 3870x2 and got the same max clocks on the stock HSF that I'm now getting with a dedicated water loop going into its own 3x12 rad. Side note: people seem to be getting a wide range of performance out of the 3870X2s when OC'ed on stock volts. Too bad you have to volt mod to get these cards to stand up and deliver. I'm probably headed that direction.

Looks like a custom version of a Thermaltake Duorb. A few other tweaks to this Visiontek card as well:cool:
looks similar, no ?

Yep, same cooler. Nice alternative to the stock setup.
Personally, I prefer Thermalright HR-03 series coolers, but they won't likely be making one for the 3870x2.
Meanwhile, other than waterblocks, there's nothing available for my 9800Gx2:(

Good avatar choice. Noctua are my favored fans. And now their heatsink:cool:

Due to the dual GPU design and the lack of suitable 3rd party coolers, the best option would be to liquid cool this thing.

That's a quality waterblock:cool:
Would be interesting to see if they have one for the 9800Gx2.
