Yo
I changed to a watercooling few weeks ago and removed all my case-fans. I have always noticed how hot my nortbridge's heatsink is but now when there is no air flow its really, really hot. I have a thermometer which only shows temps up to 75c. I put the censor to heatsink and it went >75... Computer is 24/7 stable. Does such high temps affect to my board's lifetime? That temperature feels sick high. I dont want to put any case fans because I want it quiet. Do P5B owners have noticed the same thing? And do you have any advice for PASSIVE/Watercooling for that NB, because there is no holes for screws or anything for block.
Here is my current mod. Old zalman memory-heatsinks are making more area for the heat to transfer but I want to make it cooler.

Thats why Asus has chosen the Pin Fin design on Maximus.

The temps on my RD600 northbridge: about 65c IDLE with stock cooler after cleaning the stock paste and applying AS5.
Thermalright HR-05 IFX or SLi IFX can be mounted with those loops and hooks. Even enzotech's Round heatsink can be mounted with the loops and hooks.
Although you have these options having no case fans would make them pointless too. I never thought anyone would actually do what vapor's sig said and not plug in any fans.

Did excaclty the same, but heatsink was hot with that crappy thermal paste asus uses already, so no difference :)

Hmm, I don't find a problem in that. I actually sealed all the holes too :) PSU moves the warm air from near the case roof out :) No problems with that so far.

yea, I was trying to point out that I too have a "sour" temperature.
@Ar3s
The HR-05 or NC-U6 would both work really well.

Can't you liquid cool your NB too?

I would straight away but as I said because there is no holes for screws or anything for block, I dunno what block would fit there, If none... :/:confused: Only those fkn hooks.

i got a p5b deluxe and i noticed it gets incredibly hot. the heatpipe can burn your finger ..... it wasnt so bad until my overclock tho. i've position a 40mm silenx fan onto it from the rear and helps alot (can hold my finger on the heatpipe now)
as for your northbridge, get a small heatsink, like salvaged from an old or dead motherboard / video card and stick it on via thermal tape or better yet, for the same money, thermal epoxy. put blobs on all 4 corners and a good thermal paste in the middle. will be better for heat transferrence and if you ever pull the heatsink off it'll be easier

Why did you take out all your case fans, besides wanting quiet? I ask this because you could easily stick some undervolted Yate Loons in place of the old fans and you really wouldn't notice the noise. It's never a good idea to remove all case fans, no matter how sensitive your ears are. Why? Efficient water cooling in a case must incorporate some airflow, as well.

a) I dont have extra fans atm, b)I believe psu pushes enough warm air out of case c)SB didn heat up at all, HDD a bit from 40->42, but not so much that I feel I should have to put fans. Only worry is that NB, and that how it heats up the case but I thought I could get that work without fans :) After 5 years of fan-noise I finally bought WC and now I have some kind of fear against them c(:
I have 3 yate loons in my rad too at 5V and they really are unhearable, so maybe I should get over my fanfear and buy 1 yate more :lol2:
it_burns_when_i_pee ya, have bured my fingers 10 times when have touched it too soon after shutdown :) And think, you have heatpipes, I dont! :)
Have read that overclocking, and keeping NB voltage @ auto rises voltages too high. One finnish friend of mine said he had 115c heatsink in stress when it was at auto, and 85 when he could set it himself to lower. Tried to search for NB voltage from bios, didnt find it. Only FSB voltage. Is this same as NB? I thought not. Or is it even possible to set NB voltage on this basic P5B?
