i bought an nf7-s 2.0 2 weeks ago and flashed a wrong bios on it so it wouldnt boot anymore (long story, abit tech guy told me to flash a wrong bios on it... )
i returned that board to the shop where i bought it and they told me they couldnt fix the board so ill get a new board.
i just got home and opened the box and noticed that the antistatic bag was not sealed... then i took the board out and realized that it has obviously already been used! wtf?
it has some scratches and some little parts of the glimmer stickers on the sides of the cpu socket are ripped off!!!
should i try the board first or return it inmediatly?

I would try it, OC it, and run some intensive stability tests. Who knows, you may have an OCing gem on your hands! :)
On the other hand, if it maxes out early, or isn't stable/it's flaky, just return it.

Someone that has never overclocked would never know how good the board is.
Be quick though, less the man in the shop thinks it twas you who did damage the board. :P

i called them already but all lines were busy... its 8pm and the shop is closed, ill go there tomorrow and tell them i want a new board... unless this board clocks nice of course :D
I would do exactly the same, see how it OC's first, you could hold a winner there....without even knowing it.
What week are the NB- SB?
Offcourse if it won't do 220 easily and stable i should demand a new board. :)
The first rev 2.0 mobo i bought didn't do 3d mark @ 200 FSB.
I returned the board and they told me they would test it first.
After 2 days i got a call and they told me there was nothing wrong with it but if i wanted i could get a new one.(???)
I picked up the box with the so called new board but in the car i took a quick look only to find a used board in the box!
I immediately went back in and got a brand new one.
Who knows what cracker i returned but if i had to RMA it by post i would have tested it first. :D

What I don't understand is why the shop could not fix your old board...they just needed to flash the bios or replace it at worst.

i know... i really dont know what to think of that... they are either too lazy and just sent it back to abit, or they were too stupid to realize that the board needs a new bios chip...
afaik a wrong bios cant kill a board can it? you just need a new bios chip to get it working again right?
well i fired it up and im @ 10x215 dc so far...
thats exactly the same i got with the other nf7-s 2.0 i had before... should i keep it?
it has the 14 bios btw, the other one had the 18 bios when i got it... im gonna play with diferent bios files and see what i can get out of the board.

Where were these scratches at?
It's probably a board that smoked the BIOS
chip on it's maiden run.

you know the glimmer plastic around the cpu socket, it looks like somebody has brushed it with a metal brush... some parts are missing and it on some parts of it it doesnt reflect the light anymore... and it has some tiny scratches on the cpu socket...
this board is behaving really freaky!
i tried bios 10,11,12,14beta and 14 and couldnt even get it to run 10x195 3dstable! actually it crashed loading windows with both 14 versions... then i remembered that the default bios this board had was 14! i dont know if it was 14 beta or just the normal 14... anyways i flashed the default bios on the board wich allowed me to run 10x210 3dstable this afternoon, but now it crashes loading windows with the very same bios and the same settings!!!!
WTF?
could it be that trying the other bios files added some crap that doesnt get erased even when i flash the default bios on again?
or do i need to power off the system and reset the bios for 5 min everytime i flashed the bios? i know that some 875 boards need to be powered off to get bios changes working...
wth is wrong with theese nf7-s 2.0 boards here in germany?
ill return this board tomorrow, im not sure yet whether ill try a new nf7-s 2.0 or ask them to replace it with a 8rda3+
and the abit support here in germany is horrable, it took them 2 weeks to reply to my emails and all they said was something like : you voided your warranty since you tried to oc it, so stop bothering us we wont help you. and once again, i would never have flashed 20 bios on my board what killed it if the abit tech guy wouldnt have insisted on it.
my expirience with abit so far:
bought nf7-s 2.0
craps out at 10x200 out of the box :/
10x215 with bios 16... :/
abit tech guy tells me to flash to bios 20 for rev 1.0 boards - board=dead
return the board to the shop i bought it for repair
board cant be repaired
abit finally replies to my emails saying i oced the board so i have no more warranty on the board
shop gives me a new nf7-s 2.0 board
board has already been used :/
board is getting freaky after some bios flashes

Good to see you are taking it back though.
With all those scratches you would always have doubts in your mind.
Everytime the system crashed you would be looking at the scratches and thinking hmm...
Good luck with the new board m8.
Take that back, it should be 200MHz stable with ANY bios! If you're unsure of it being 'good' to the shop when they test it, stick the most unstable bios back on and then return it!
It's a little sneaky, but it'll just save you the hassle of the shop having better luck for 10mins while testing it and refusing to replace it!

it might also be one of my memory sticks, going to test the memory sticks and try lower multis and diferent vdd settings to see if that helps.
i think ill return this board this afternoon... ill try another nf7-s 2.0 board i guess and hope its not such a dud again :/

ok at 10x200 i get a blue screen using my twinmos 3700 and hyperx 3500 in dual channel. if i use both sticks in the dimm slots for the first memory controller 10x200 is stable, if i use only 1 stick 10x200 is stable as well.
sounds like the memory doesnt work together in dual channel right? but i already had this both memory sticks in dc configuration running 215/220 on the toher nf7-s 2.0 board without any problems!
so its the nb crapping out under dc load right?

i think its the last memory slot which cant go too high. Thats usually what keeps you back on Nforce boards. try a single stick in the last DIMM and see how far you can go, then try one in the first DIMM. i'm pretty sure thats the problem. cant be solved, its a PCB thing. the rev2 boards generally go better than the rev1.x in this
good info, do NF² bords from other brands also have this problem?

Had to relax my mem timings a bit on the denser 2x512 Corsair XMS3500c2 sticks in the NF7-2 rev 2.0 boards...plus did the Vdd mod.
I had it up to over 236 FSB at one time stable. Here's some old screenies I took of it.

TwinMos PC3700 again had to run more relaxed timings but it did great (2x256).

Keep in mind these are really old screenshots, not even sure what bios I was using then (I think it was 1.0 though).

im getting weird errors , like i cant use the copy and paste function in windows and java doest run correct...
if i run memtest and get errors, how do i know if its the memory or the chipset that is giving me errors?
EDIT:just called the shop, according to them they can give me any board as long as it works, it doesnt have to be new... actually i wouldnt have a problem with that IF the board WOULD work :/

whoohooo i just got an asus a7n8x deluxe rev2.0 "gold edition"
nb: 0310 c1 stepping
sb: 0319 a4 stepping
looks good so far, i really like the asus bios :)
How's the new board o/c?
They can give you any board, but it is still at fault if it can't hit the speeds it is sold as certified to hit!
