Hi,

I would like to know if it is within OCZ warranty to remove the standard heatspreaders of my RAM and replac them with this thing (http://www.sharkacomputers.com/aqcoraddr2me.html).

Also if this is within warrenty (or not) maybe you have some good advice on how to take them of?

Thanks in advance!

No, any removal of OCZ heatspreaders voids your warranty.

So if I accept to void the warranty, is there any "good" way to remove the heatspreaders?

Moderate heat and a LOT of patience or you will rip the IC's off the PCB, if we are talking about DDR2. Even with both, you still may rip an IC off and be out of luck.
Less chance of IC's ripping off on DDR1, but possibility still here.

There is no point changing to another air heatspreder. Just use 80-120mm fan :)

Now if you go xtreme and cool it with subzero that is another story but then you must remove heatspreders which obviously voids your warranty

Seems to me like a lousy policy to me.

The high end graphics card makers let you swap heatsinks and don't make a fuss about it.

You generally will not rip an IC off your vid card by removing the heatsink.

If we allowed it, the end result would be someone removing them, ripping off an IC then expecting us to fix it under warranty, because we said it was ok to remove them in the first place.

No need to rip anything off if you can just put one of those spotcool fans over the memory imho.

Thanks for al the reply's.
I found a better way of solving it, I''l build a kopper/alu plate under my aqua comp. ramplex (see first post). This wil give me more freedom in where to place the modules under de cooler. Then I will simply place alu plates against the heatspreaders. It may not be as effective but it wil not void my warrenty:)

Removing glued heatspreader isn't same thing as removing heatsink from videocard. BGA solder joints are very fragile, and once you use excessive methods of removing heatspreader, riping off memory IC is easier than removing stock heatsink from videocard.

So would it be possible to special order a set of sticks with out the HS and keep the warranty intacted?

No, if the model has HS on it, then it comes with HS. You would have to buy a model that does not have HS.

If I'm not mistaken, you are implying the Value Ram line. It's too bad you don't have anything high performance with a naked mem stick
