Whats the point of a gx2 if your going to run 1280x1024?

i just ran the test at that res to post it in a results thread on another site, do you want me to run some at higher res?

9800GX2 and 1280x1024 and No AA No AF ?
Please don't tell me that you bought that card to game at those settings :D
Id like to see the result of
1920 X 1200 at very high setting with 4AA

lol - if I had this card, i'd be running it @ 1280x960 2AA 16AF V.High :p: :D
btw op: XP was slower? wuh?

how do you stability test your GPU overclocks? Ati tool reports artifacting at stock speeds so that's no help :(

Both runs are on Vista, DX9 and DX10

1920x1200 very high would be nice. No point in using AA since using crysis has so many objects it will just cripple it. Plus, you don't need AA at 1920x1200

i've just been using rthdribl and looking for artifacts myself.

You download it.
Just google Crysis Benchmark Tool and you'll find it.
Regarding the GX2, those company of heroes benches are super slow. What resolution was it at?

1920 * 1200 everything maxed, 16x aa. i tried it again today with 2x aa and got 50 average.
edit here's my latest 03 run, it's the least cpu bottlenecked benchmark i have found. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=5782708
750 /1105 /1875 very nice OC

yes stock cooler with 100% fan. i can't find any programs that will read the temps for this card. riva tuner only shows the temp of one core which i'm not 100% sure is correct, ati tool won't work at all, and gpu-z is way off. i guess i should try the ntune monitor.

That's funny 1 GX2 scores 3 frames per second better than my QUAD CrossfireX at 1900X1200 look at this those 3870 X2's are terrible

:yepp: of course! 3-4 GPU scaling sucks - esp in Crysis, plus the fact that 1 nv gpu is better than 1 ATi gpu.. etc etc

Yeah no doubt  I am just gearing up to get a 9800 GX2 this morning I actually think it will be a step up from these ATI Quad CFX solution just 1 GX2will outperform Quad CFX most of the time and definitley where it matters to me Crysis, Lost Planet, TF2 (just kidding), and the other games will play without that annoying flashing phenomenon I get with these cards.. ATI was king for a day but it must be disheartening to compete with Nvidia....

4870>gx2 imo you should wait a couple of months and then choose...

03-25-2008, 01:31 PM
But there's no concrete release dates or specs for the 4870 so you could end up waiting a while. There's always something new around the corner but you can't always wait for the "next-gen".

Indeed...
If 4k series are based on an new arch, I dont think they will release its high end so soon after hd3870x2. Who knows, but we have no reliable info whatsoever...

i get about 5 FPS because 512 mb per GPU isn't enough to turn on that much AA. they better start making some 1 GB cards soon.
btw i have some quad sli results if you guys want to see them.

YES
Also, has anyone (with an HDMI compatible monitor) compared the two hook-ups on the GX2? (HDMI vs. DVI)? Obviously HDMI should be better, but I'm wondering if there's a significant difference.

They're both digital, so I'm sure there's no noticeable difference.

here's my 03 score, http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=5784667
my 05 score http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=4132667
and my 06 score at default res http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5919033
and my 06 score at 1680 *1050 to show just how much these cards are bottlenecked by the cpu. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5919280
i'll post my crysis quad sli results later, but they are the same at 1280*1024 because of the huge cpu bottle neck so i run them at 1680*1050.

Yeah, just read into it . . . image quality is identical, same encoding scheme, only HDMI carries audio

you mean with 1GB per GPU? 2GB total on a GX2? is this a pipedream, or could this really be forthcoming?

well not necessarily on the 9800GX2, unless they can up the memory interface to 512bit, the problem right now is that you really only get 512 MB of vmem because it keeps a copy of the data in each GPUs memory.
has anyone tried dual monitors with the gx2?
can you get 1080p from all ports at the same time? my 8800 ultra is scaling one to 1080i when i have both monitors on, but if i turn the other display off, then it reverts back to 1080p on the fly.

how is the quality of the audio over the hdmi output? is it 5.1?

I'll just copy it from wikipedia, since I couldn't say it any better: "HDMI also includes support for 8-channel uncompressed digital audio at 192 kHz sample rate with 24 bits/sample as well as any compressed stream such as Dolby Digital, or DTS. HDMI supports up to 8 channels of one-bit audio, such as that used on Super Audio CDs at rates up to 4x that used by Super Audio CD. With version 1.3, HDMI now also supports lossless compressed streams such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio."
I was actually wrong when I said the video signals were the same. DVI allows 85Hz max at 1920x1200, and 60Hz max at 2560 × 1600 using a dual link plug (which is what everyone is or should be using), and 165MHz max frequency each link, 330MHz total (7.92 Gbit/s). And only supports RGB data.
HDMI 1.3 is a single-link and supports 30, 36 and 48-bit xvYCC, sRGB or YCbCr with 'Deep Color.' and has a bandwidth of 340MHz (10.2 Gbit/sec). It still only allows for 60Hz max for 1200p and 1600p. That's probably why high-end monitors for design, where color-accuracy is most important, you usually see HDMI inputs and not on a Dell or an HP.
sorry, i wasn't very clear. by quality i meant level of audio channels. ie - i was asking how many channels of audio the gx2 card supports.. 5.1 or 7.1... 2.1?

haha, then that's a lot easier. The GX2 just has a TOSLINK SPDIF connector on the side of the card to hook up to your soundcard . . SPDIF supports up to 24 bit audio, so that's the most you're gonna get out of any sound card anyway, so it's whatever quality your soundcard is.
