Running 3DMark benchmarks (03 - 06), I hear a high pitched, sustained beep that continues until the individual GPU test ends, then starts again with the next test.

I have more than enough power -- 12KW PC P&C unit. Super Talent Project X PC-14400 RAM (1800MHz). QX9650 CPU. Maximus Extreme mobo (see footer for other specs). I'm able to complete the test; there doesn't appear to be any overheating; and my scores are very good. Crossfire is clearly working but is putting a strain on some 'mystery' component when overclocked. I hear the tone even during modest overclocks -- not just high OC's.

I contacted Sapphire, mfr of the two X2's, and the tech said that while the cards will beep like that on boot if they're not receiving adequate power (usually when a cable isn't plugged in), they would not do that during a benchmark. If the cards weren't getting enough power during a benchmark, he said the cards would generate a fatal error message and the system would reboot. He was 100% certain of that.

Makes sense to me, so where is the beep coming from and why?
