Next-Gen Cards - Fact from Fiction

OK, I've been trying to read up on info for the next-gen extreme preformance Graphics Cards that are supposed to be coming out in the future. I was so bogged down with crap I couldn't find anything. Can anyone clarify what cards are coming out and what their specs are supposed to be and what their relationship preformance wise to the Radeon HD X2 and 8800ULTRA?

it's still kind of early to say for sure. the GeForce 9800 GTX is coming out this week or next week, i believe. from what i can tell, it shouldn't be much different than an 8800 Ultra. no big news there. beyond that, i only know ATI rumors.

the ATI RV770 will be out in summer - anywhere from June to August, depending on where you read about it. i think it's supposed to have ~480 SP's and twice the TMU's of the current 3870. should be a fast little card. i'd expect prices to be $200-300, but that's just a guess.

the one i'm waiting for is the ATI R700, which is going to be the first true dual core video card. not dual GPU like the current high end solutions, but an actual dual core processor like most of our CPU's. the core will be based on RV770.

OK, Thanks. That R700 sounds awesome, I'm gonna have to put off my purchase to wait for that thing :P.

No one will be able to tell you anything, because no one knows anything. All we know is that the 9800GX2 was just released, the 9800GTX is soon, and hopefully we'll have the R770/GT200 - true next gen - sometime in the middle of summer.

I say wait for the true next gen cards. There isn't much that your SLI 8800GT's can't handle.
