3870 x2 + 3850 256mb in CrossFireX ? Anyone Done it yet??

anyone done this yet, im having issues getting it to work....cat 8.3 just doesnt work but 8.2a seems to work ....

anyone share there results/issues or guide me to a discussion on the same setup would be much appreciated...

Search around the forum, I'm 100% sure there at least one person that did a write up on how they combined a 3870x2 and a 3870, since the 3850 is still in the same family, I can't see why it shouldn't work

I am running a 3870 x2 and 2 3850's in quadfire. works fine for me. not as much of a hit on the 256mb as I was thinking there would be.

Jimmyz, can you post some results with 3870X2 and with 3870X2 + 2x3850? I was wondering if it was worth selling one of my 3850s and getting an 3870x2 instead.

well...with the 8.2a i get 20323 at 3.82ghz with the 3870 x2 and the 3850 and with only the x2 i got 19'000 odd with the chip at 3.95ghz. when i use the 8.3 drivers its drastic...13'000 odd with either single 3870 x2 or both the x2 and 3850 installed.......(all 3dm 06 )

im a bit miffed at the problems with the drivers seeing the card.... vista says both are installed but ccc only see's the x2 and i cant change much....

it also says my system is not running at optimal performance.....


weird...and annoying....

maybe cat 8.4 will sort this....lol...

Don't use caps. type normal, it is rude.


Crossfirex defaults to the lowest cores clockspeed, whereas crossfire could run individual clocks. since the 3850 is only 670 it is dropping the 3870X2 from 825 to 670.

lose frames on what? CrossFire doesn't work with all games. and CrossFireX has been a complete bust for me. 8.3 and 8.4 both didn't work for me. i'm still running Cat 8.2.

i also overclock my 3850 to 7700mhz and 1125mhz ram (2250mhz) but its still slow. i get a lower 3dmakr score (12k) and crysis is gittery. i will try cat 8.2 driver. do u think if i overclock my 3850 to 825mhz it will be o.k? is that possible? thanx

you'll never see good CrossFireX performance with that P35 motherboard of yours. you'll need X38 or X48 if you want to run that hardware the way it's meant to be run.

yea that 4x slot pisses me off. however the motherboard is crossfire certifide. you still should not se a decrease. at least a small increase.

is there an option in the BIOS called CrossFire Impeller or something like that? i know some P965 boards had an option that you had to enable in the BIOS for CrossFire to work (badly). P35 might be the same way.

it has that option and its enable, but still no luck. i still have to test out the 8.2 drivers. havent had time.
