How easy would it be to remove the LEDs from a fan? or at least stop them coming on? In a perfect situation I would like to put a switch in there so I can choose on or off (fans I am looking at are xilence). Anyone done this before?
Cheers, James.

lol has no one got a Xilence LED edition? how about other LED fans, do they have a wire round the outside or owt I could solder a switch into? I don't yet have any LED fans in my case...

If you don't yet have the fans you could always get ones that don't have LEDs. Even if you do, new ones are only like $5-6 apiece.
I have an Xilence Red LED version, these are "quad LED's" there's a wire for each LED light so I guess if you want them to go, you can just cut the wires for the LED and that's it.
Dunno how would it work to make some switch for the LED's..

I like the LEDs just not while watching films or if I leave it on overnight to rip a DVD or summat. It's is a bit distracting having a small circus in the corner of the room :)

Lol, i love the Blue LEDs in my Stacker at night. Its just like a nightlight which is handy if i wake up needing a p*ss in the middle of the night cause i dont have to stumble about tryna find a light switch.

the easy way it's to cut one of the wiring or take screwdriver and hit the led (Supposed to be broke):)

If you want to add a toggle switch to one of your LED fans its pretty easy.
Im looking at my Antec case fan 12cm blue LED.
It has a ribbon around it. That ribbon contains 2 separate strips that feed the power to the LED's. Onto each of the two conductors are soldered a pair of wires. One is for voltage and the other is the return. The GND.
You need a single pole/single throw switch. A basic on/off switch found at any radio shack or wherever. If you can find one with a long mounting neck (threads) its good. Just make sure its not a momentary contact switch.
Now mount that toggle switch somewhere. Like through one of the screw holes that arent (are NOT) being used to mount the fan. The hole toward the inside of the case, if you can.
Now, to that ribbon are soldered two wires, probably red and black. You need to unsolder one. Doesnt matter which one. Pick which ever one is longer. phht whatever. The longer one will be easier to work with in my opinion.
If you need to, add some length to the wire you just unsoldered by soldering on an inch or whatever lenght you need to make that wire reach the toggle switch. Solder it to one leg of the switch. Now tak a piece of wire and solder it from the other leg of the switch to the place on the ribbon you removed the affore mentioned wire. Walla!! ON/OFF switch for your LED.
Its just that simple.
Make sure you use some heatshrink or electrical tape to cover any exposed wires because if you let an exposed wire hit the side of the case it will be bad.
And I will not be held responsible for anyones damage caused by your lack of mad skills when performing any "A.American Engineering" on your computer.
Only UV Led fan i know that features this Removal & turning off is from A.C.Ryan. it uses the hot glue to keep the leds in place so just removing the hot glue with a screwdriver will give you access to the LEDs and you can replace it with any other colour.
Turning the LEDs off is easy you can need to unplug a section of the wire as it comes with a dual connection. one provides power to the fan the other the leds.

Yup, I did it just like this during christmas. I put it on a momentary switch because the fan was trash and I just wanted to see if it would work, but it works like a charm. Sorry I don't have any pictures because I was just screwing around :(.

Fans have arrived. Gonna do pretty much like what little_scrapper said however gonna route all the wires round the case. All LEDs in groups of 4 (one fan each) in parallel, and rig it up to the sound sensitive part of my Xilence Fan controller!
Hopefully won't be too much to blow summat, but we shall see. *wonders how gay it will look all lights going on and off in time to music lol* *solders*

Ha I have this problem also. Like LEDs, but I leave my comp on pretty much 24/7, so they get annoying at night. I ended up just cutting the wires and that was the end of them. I don't buy LED fans anymore. >.>
