View Full Version : CPU temp problem

I recently just installed a Q6600 on my DS3-R board and the reported temps are a cause of concern. The cores (according to Coretemp, latest version) are idling at 47-52C . I've seated and reseated numerous times and I think I found my problem. When I apply a bit of pressure onto the CPU block to the CPU, temps drop drastically, to the upper 30s, low 40s. Seems like I have a pretty horrid concave on both the CPU and CPU block.

And now my question (sorry for the read ). Would it help if I put a thin sheet of copper or silver between them? I don't want to spend money on a new cooler, as I am quite happy with my AC Freezer Pro 7. I've been reading the lapping guide, but I was wondering if my idea is a sound alternative?
