So as the title says, I want see if I can improve on my current sound situation.

Right now I have an X-Fi Fatal1ty and a Medusa 5.1 Headset (http://www.medusa-canada.com/medusa-51-progamer-edition-v2-p-867.html).

The headset is quite nice, and this is actually the second pair I've gone through over the last two and a half years. I sorta broke my first pair, and then they sent me another pair. Kinda broke this pair again, same place on the headband as the first pair I broke, but this time I used some epoxy glue to fix it :D

What I really want is amazing sound while gaming. I would simply jump and grab a 7.1 speaker setup, but when you get on Vent, everyone can hear your sound in the background, and I just think that is rude. Why Vent doesn't have an option to mute sound while your keybind is down is beyond me, but whatever.

So, I guess my only option is to find an awesome pair of headphones. I don't mind having a mic on the desk as opposed to my headphones, so I am shooting for quality here, not necessarily an all in one package. Also, it seems those Medusa's are the highest rated headphones that do the 5.1 thingy with multiple speakers.

Sorta looking at these at the moment. (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=179732)

So, yeah, very long post, I know. But any recommendations to take advantage of the best gaming sound, 5.1/7.1, and be able to use Vent would be very appreciated!

Drop the junk headphones, and get something proper, that are actually made for SQ, and made by reputable companies.

Look into Grado, Beyerdynamic, AKG, Sennheiser (higher end ones only), Audio Techinica, Denon.

I wouldn't recommend any other brands for full size cans if you want good sound quality. These 5.1 surround, and "gaming" headsets are junk.

The Grado SR-60 are pretty much the best bang for buck headphone out there.

Proper headphones have good soundstage, and don't need any "surround sound 5.1" gimmicks.

As far as comfort goes, is there a pair on the lighter side, i.e. not so heavy, so I could wear them during a long gaming session?

Also, I don't mind spending up to $350 for a pair.

The Grado SR-60 or SR-80's are pretty light and much lower in price. Good luck.

Grados have an amazing reputation in the audiophile community, but they look like they were made by some 1950s radio ham and are not that comfortable.
Try reading up in head-fi.org to make a decision thats best for you..you can start here:

Good luck with your choice. :)

The look is unimportant, the sound quality is. I understand what you mean though many of the higher quality cans have that "old time" look to them. I also like Senn's, all the sets I have heard sound very nice. It is great if you can get to listen to the sets before hand to help make up your mind, usually this is not possible. Read some reviews of the headphones your interested in....Headfi is a great place to ask questions if your looking for opinions on headphones. Good luck with your search.

Search for Denon or JBL and see what comes up... these are the finest, with great experience, and the sq is... well not mutch to be sed. They simply rule. Check them out, and I'm sure that if u patiently read through the specs, u'll find what you're loocking for... AH-D2000 for example, wish it were my birth-day again...
