I was being my klutz self and moving things around my desk, ending up with me knocking over my 22" Samsung.

I highly doubt it would be covered under warranty.

There is a 1/4 gash, from the screen hitting a HDD that was laying on the desk and scratches on the screen......

Any suggestions on getting it fixed if possible? The monitor still works, just have a gash right in the MIDDLE of the screen :(

Most companies do not cover physical damage under warranty, but if you bought an extra warranty that covers physical damage, you can get it fixed by the company.

However, I do believe that you can get it fixed, or replace the damaged screen yourself. Check out this website

Read the articles in the links that point to LCD screen repair and replacement parts.

Check this article:

Good luck mate :) Let us know how it goes!

Man that sucks sorry about that :( I almost knocked my LCD over once, scared me to death

Is it physically broken, like a crack and leaking or just all gouged up but no actual breaks in the LCD?

Sounds like he just scratched the film on the screen, no tears.

Dont know how it could work if it was leaking.

Twice I've knocked mine off the desk 3 feet to the floor and it suffered no damage at all other than the plastic housing coming apart which I could snap back together. I've been really lucky

Stupid moves, yes, but rather easy for this to happen actually as the unit was mounted on a wall and doesn't have it's rear "arm" requiring me to prop it up against my 22" CRT. Hey, it was free from work :)

Best of luck Phelen! :(

I've seen it. Most of the LCD works except for the area right around the crack.

Yeah well in this case it tipped forward, and the screen landed on a HDD sitting on my desk.

Yeah mine landed flat on the floor, had anything been down there I'd be hosed.

If the gash is creating a line of opacity blocking the light from the panel, it might be worth the cost of fixing (buying a new screen if it is cheap enough – the web site blurb says that they can sell you a glossy screen).

Have you tried cleaning the area of the gash? It might give it more transparency. Iso propyl achohol (the over 90% kind) might actually make the gash more transparent.

there's a trick for scratches. you could use pencil eraser (rub it) or vasoline and put it on the scratch; it makes it less visible.

Really? I thought all the liquid would leak out leaving nothing to display the imagine.

Well what usually cracks is the glass, the plastic coating on the outside is still whole so the liquid leaks out the crack some at impact and may run out a little as time goes on but it can't really go anywhere because it is all sealed up so there isn't much in the way of space for it to run into.

The actual panel is protected by a polymer screen (am unsure of the exact material). The panel itself seems to "seal off" any minor fissures in case it happens.

I have seen a Samsung LCD monitor that had a pretty nasty gash that reached all the way to the panel "sealing off" the damage with the rest of the monitor working; albeit with eccentricities - it was noticeably dimmer and tended to black out for a few seconds whenever the full screen window changed.

Not to say I am innocent of thread jacking or going OT as I Might be indicted as such:wasntme:

If you want to start a good discussion about anything, the Speak Freely section has A lot of people with a lot of strong opinions, and I can be found there myself on occasion.

But I am looking for help in this thread, and thanks for the responses guys.

My apologies for the previous digressions.

What I think is the right thing to do is to isolate the problem to see if the actual panel and/or the protective screen have been damaged. If the actual LCD panel has been damaged, I think that the monitor should be got rid of (then you could try and minimize the effect of the damage for max value).

If the gash has been only to the protective screen, I think that it would be a good idea to replace the screen (the screen vendors/repair personnel seem to have a reasonable return policy) and then decide if it is a good idea to keep/sell the monitor.

No apologies needed, no harm done. I know the gash is deep because I can't see the cursor under it, or anything else for that matter just back lighting.

PM me price/link to Monitor, I have been wanting to move to 24", and I am leaning towards a Dell if I do, but will look @ other options, and you are only next door in comparison to our global community so shipping shouldn't be to bad.

Darn, it does seem that the gash has reached the panel!:(

I think it might be worth it to send emails to the repair/seller guys and ask them for opinions and pricing. You will then have more options.
