My computer:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
E6750
Corsair CMPSU-620HX
Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive

This was my first build (I'm a bit of a noob) and its been great up until now (December - March)

Recently, I've been having some random BSOD's (sometimes while playing a game, other times during the night -- I'll wake up to a BSOD). I think I've fixed the problem. My mobo stock voltage to the RAM was 1.8V so I upped that by +0.04V to 2.2V. I can now run memtest86+ v2.01 all night (21 passes or so) without errors. For some reason only +0.04 works - tested +0.01 to +0.04.

I want to re-format the hard drive and re-install vista b/c I think I might have some corrupted files (computer is very slow and getting errors when I try to install or change things).

My question is, are there any other things I can test so that I can ensure that I do not end up with a corrupted vista install? Can I test the hard drive? Can I rely on memtest?

My other question is about the RAM. Right now my timings in BIOS say 5-5-5-18. Should I change this?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

you'll want to download Orthos (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/385/Orthos_Stress_Prime_2004.html) and Memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/).

run Orthos for 10 hours if you want to be positive. if you get an error, your computer isn't stable. if you run for 10 hours without an error, you're in good shape. then create a boot disc and run Memtest. same thing. if you can run Orthos and Memtest without errors, your computer is stable. if you get any errors at all, something is wrong with your build.

I have run memtest on my current setup for about 8-9 hours straight - no errors. I liked this test because it was outside of the operating system so I didn't have to worry about OS problems mucking up the results.

Will Orthos detect corrupt files? Or I should say, will corrupt files have an effect on the Orthos results?

no, but you shouldn't have corrupt files if your computer is stable and you don't have any virus (viri?) in it. there are a bunch of freeware programs that will scan your registry and check for errors, but i reformat too much to have to worry about that stuff :P i know nothing about them.
