i just want to say that this rampage 308 bios is so easy to get set up after learning it a little. i stuck my crucial 4x1 pc8500 back in and ran memtest past 3 hours without any errors. it never passed on any maximus bios or settings i ever tried.. it would never go over 20 min before.

I just got this board, nothing is oc'd.. everything is well cooled, a lianli full tower and an AC 7 pro
My E8400 idles at like 44C (coretemp, hwmonitor, everest), and the nb is showing 56C.
The e8400 idled around the same temp with a tuniq tower on a p5w dh deluxe.
Suggestions?

are you sure that your case is getting good flow? those numbers seem a bit high to me... i have no experience with either that board or cpu... but i could pull 33c idle on a e6750 OVERCLOCKED on a lesser air cooler (asus silent square or something like that... its orange and im looking at it wondering what the exact model is.) perhaps the sensor is stuck on your cpu? try realtemp. what is your northbridge reading volt-wise?

this motherboard is quite finnicky but once you stroke it the right way it purrs. it seems that this board is all about trial and error. 1 guide does not really help another even with near identical setups. it seems that there is no real base for which to start overclocking or memory tweaking. just to get it running proerly requires different settings for each user. this is my observation at least.

Still waiting for some kind of feedback or comment on the sub timinges used in auto by BIOS as to where and why I should adjust and in what order and direction. Odd, this tread was heavily into RAM sub timings tweaking just a month ago. Like I said before, I'm not looking to crash the board, just wondering if it has room for improvements for real world performance with stability.
Furthermore, I am occassionally getting the det_ram msg on random resumes from S4, and I can only guess lots from S3 since it just hangs on resume from S3. Nevertheless, I can simply reset and it is good to go. I notice it happens a lot from cold wakes as my office gets cold in night and in day w/ A/C on. If it is warmed up and on and off all day, it's fine. mind you, these are soft hangs, not the hard hang ups I had in 907 BIOS requiring a hard pwr off and reset. later I may test w/ OCZ Plats to see if it makes a difference.
I continue to get the occassional blinking LCD poster issue. I confirmed it is dropping detection of all mobo temps except CPU and MB and reads out 4.08 for all volts except for CPU and PSU rails (12v/5/3.3). Is or has anybody experienced this yet? To my thermal probing, it is just a fluke since surface temps of various parts are same as before the drop our. Performance is the same too.

yea, well I just happen to have an e6750, and my oc'd e6750 was getting the same temps (33c) overclocked.
so its not the case or the heatsink.

my guess is the northbridge is not seated well and the sensor is stuck on your cpu. try giving realtemp (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=179044) a go and see what your temp is there.

But at what kind of OC. I get 32c idle on 500x7 @ 1.36v or 36c on my 485x8 @ 1.480v and only 37/38c @ 4GHz as 500x8 @ 1.56v Note: these ratings are with high flow Sythe S-Flex in push single only in SilverStone TJ-06 case. CPU and base lapped to smooth.

Wow, I am totally astonished, is this for real? I had 2 other of these and could barely ever boot to XP x64 w/ 1.488v let alone prime. Is this the bare minamium for boot or actual prime 95 stable? And I got my 2 early on in production. So is it to say the recent cores are needing less to OC. Mine was a 1.3000 vid and 1.3250 vid on the 2nd if that helps. Oddly my Q6600 is like 1.2550 vid.

it was rock stable.. could do prime in its sleep
just did it to get my ram up to 800
anyways im sending the 8400 back to newegg, bringing the board back to microcenter.. ill get a replacement on the mobo, I want one for the cpu too, but I doubt they'll have it in stock so ill just get a refund most likely.

since the 308 bios is a little different then the maximus here are some pictures.. sorry they are a little big as i don't have any picture resize tool installed yet. i set up the speed and volts knowing what 907 ran at then left the rest at auto then shut down and went right back into bios. it reset the settings that it wanted to run the timings with the pl level at that speed then just added them in. then re started to make sure it worked. i played with moderate and strong a little also.. on 8x450 on the 333 strap at 1081 it changes a few timing settings and the pl shows up as 7 it ran good there. i just need better cooling then i can start to play with it as i am kind af scared to go any higher especially with the nb volts and temp getting up there. i ran memtest on the picture settings for a couple hours. then i played games and 2 hours in. i had a crash where it changed my fsb termination voltage back down to 1.20 then it gave me the f1 to go back into bios and it took me a few min to find it.. wtf??? i am going to lower it back down untill i get water for it..

it does have many sweet settings that i don't know enough about yet. especially since i was stuck on my old computer with pc3200 untill i bought this thing.. it has been months since i have been able to use this one without it being a paper weight for days at a time.. this bios and or me getting rid of my raid for a single drive made my board work long enough so i can actually test stuff. i am going to give raid another go on it. something changed the way it works now.. it has never started or stopped and restarted they way it does now from when it was new..

When I do a cold boot and would have the "det dram" hang, under hardware monitor my ram volts were showing 1.88.
So as I was not 100% sure what these settings did I started playing around.
So after a few experiments I have found setting all to DDR2-REFF +10mv removes my det dram issues completely.
I used to get 2 or 3 det dram hangs a week, after making the setting change, I have not had a hang for over 1 week.

Interesting find. I have problems with booting my computer cold as well. Funny thing though it didn't start happening until after I installed my QX9650, this never happened while using my x6800. I've heard people suggest upping NB volts and/or switching trans booster to "auto" but neither of those fixes worked for me. I'll give yours a shot and see what happens. Thanks...

IDE is simply an add on from J-Micron, just disable it in CMOS. The RAID (ICH9R) can be converted back to IDE mode and act as legasy SATA, no AHCI and of cose no RAID function anymore.
This is only good if you use no IDE/PATA (not many anymore) and have NO RAID array or need no AHCI SATA performance boost. In AHCI/RAID mode (ICH9R) detection can be shortened, however, it heightens the risk of one or more drives not fetting detected on a given POST/BOOT and only having to reboot and still take longer now. Same would go for EIDE on J-Micron.
Thats why for daily use, it's best to really make use of the ACPI functions of S3/STR (Stand By) or S4/STHDD (Hibernate) if you overclock profile supports it. S3 is usually unstable on a divider and tight timings.
Any word on the higher comfort vcore zone for these Xeon X3350's or X3230? Is 1.35~1.4v too high for these?

C'mon fella's share your experience. Anybody overclocking any quality 2x 2GB RAM sticks to 1150~1200MHz on x38/x48? If even at 1150MHz, can those OCZ really stable out at only 2.1v? If that's so, I'm sold already, but how much further can they overclock?
Members please share links to reputable lab reviews if you would. Or at least comparing how 2x 2GB sticks OC next to 2x 1GB kits for us interested.

I've been through three different sets of 2 x 2 GB so far:
OCZ ReaperX 1000MHz - Maxed at about 1066 MHz - 5-5-5-18 at 2.1v
G.Skill 1000MHz - Run at stock speeds, but when I tried to OC them, got Memtest86+ errors - seems they only like 333 FSB on this board (in my case anyway)
Mushkin Redline 1000MHz - 1056 MHz is the highest I could get. 5-5-5-12 TRD 7 at 400 FSB with a quad seem to be their sweet spot on the 266 strap at the stock speed of 1000MHz. Anything above 400 FSB and they require a higher TRD and the bandwidth actually can go down.
Of course I'm not the best overclocker around, but I do a lot of reading and research on stuff.
I am now going to try the Dominators 1066 MHz and also a 4x1 set of Mushkin 1066MHz XP2 sticks (which supposedly can do 5-5-4-12 1200MHz) and see how things go.
If you want, I can run some tests when I get everything in, as I will hopefully have all of this memory here in the next week or so.

I have a bios template that's 8 hours OCCT stable and 2 hours stable in MemTest 2.01.
Memtest 2.01 stable don't impress me anymore! Run Prime95 in "blend mode" for 4 hours.
BTW. I'm going to try your Trans Booster = Auto tonight and see if I can get to 500 as well on that. I'd like to try FSB 500 / DDR 1000 and tighten the timings as well. Could be speedy!
If I find settings that work I'll post.

my Cpu runs prime stable at well over 4.3ghz yet when I press the reset button the computer reboots and hangs at a blank screen. However, if I use the windows shut down function or a hard reset it boots fine. LCD poster doesn't show a error code. I cannot be the only one with this problem. Yet I have yet to get a response. If you have had this problem how do you fix it.

Update @ 20:20: 3hrs Prime stable in blend, good temps. S3/STR does not work at all for me and my set up in v1004. as w/ my 485x8 in 5:6. I will test in 1:1 later when I test for FSB over 525. However, I was able to reduce my vdimm much and upp the row refresh cycly time to 50 and read to precharge from 3 to 4 and it felt much smoother. RAID loading was also smooth. the use of vdimm 2.2v @ 1165MHz has required less FSBT and PLL and of corse overall mobo temps to lower a tad. Oddly the RAM temps barely reduced by 2c of 30c form 32c when at 2.27v (monitored by probe 1&2).
Can somebody on v1004 and E6x50 on Intel RAID or at least AHCI on 450FSB + divider (ie; 5;6) confirm S3 working for them. It fails imediately upon entering, yet it never really enters, just hangs as if in S1 yet S3 only is selected in BIOS. Any ideas. And atx reset is inactive, requiring hard pwr off and reboot. I get the OC fail @ CMOS &entering only to view save & exit is fine & I'm up and running again
O.K. I decided to ginve BETA BIOS v1004 a test run and see how it goes. I hope I dont have another BETA v0907 again. Lol! For a sec. there just after entering set up to load deaufaults, it hung at the det_ram again. I hard pwr down and clear caps charge and it was good to go full auto, save and exit, and stt8 to XP x64.
I will ediut here to keep any other E6750 or E6850 user in the loop. I will be testing for normal everyday use since everybody else already gave maxed out results.

Is there a cut off FSB limit for S3/STR not to work anymore in BETA v1004? I'm curious cause so many claim it now works for them where it didnt before. But I notice a lot of mild FSB levels reported, so maybe thats it.

This mobo overvolts. FSBT and PLL will drift as FSB is raised. Start w/ FSBT 1.40v (CMOS set) to get actual 1.472v, 1.42v may give 1.488, 1.44 may give 1.504. Keep PLL set manually as it climbs up there if left to Auto, ie; mine can hit 1.680 if only at 485FSB, and upto 1.712 at 505FSB, Ionly use PLL: 1.632 at 500x8.

anyone know why fsb termination voltage would change in bios by itself when set manually.. i set it for what it runs at auto 1.47/1.48 and twice it has changed to 2.0 on it's own..
I just had this happen to me last night, but I was changing my bios settings but after a couple reboots and a successful o/c it was okay.

I havent noticed any changes in 1006... and I dont use S3 states so I couldnt tell you :)
Its odd that they released it on a shipment of mobo's but don't have it posted on their website downloads.

It could just be a 1004 Final that was good for release. I gained nothing from 1006.

Could you run Everest Memory Bench with your ram at current 5-4-4-12-3-25-6-3, and then again at 5-5-5-15-3-30-3-6 and post both results
Oh. Sorry, am on vacation. Will do so this weekend if it's still of value to you, but here it is for 5-4-4-12-3-25-6-3:

After upgrading earlier from bios 903 to Rampage bios 308 i logged into vista to check the voltages. I launched everest and what i saw was very unusual. Fisrt of all the were no NB/SB Volt or Temp at all, Cpu core was wrong and the list goes on. Is this normal after the bios upgrade? I tried to re intall but nothing changed? Anyone had the same problem?

You need a newer version of Everest. Grnfinger had the same problem and updating his Everest version solved it for him.

Hey, forgive me if you guys have already gone over this...
I just got a brand new P5E using the newest beta bios and I'm messing around with it for the first time...I have an e8400 at 9x430MHz, stable at 1.37V (auto). I have C1E and EIST enabled.
When it's idle, every program that monitors voltage reports 1.37V. Then, when it's at load, it reports 1.34V. This seems a little ridiculous as when it's idle the clock speed drops by over 1GHz, isn't the voltage supposed to go down when it's idle? not up?

First off, I dont reccomend using EIST (Intel Speedstep) on an overclock, it's not very stable and is why ASUS usually locks it out of OC above certain FSB levels. Second, I for sure would not use EIST and C1E together. Use C1E+TM mode for better results.
As for the loading drop in vcore, this is normal, it's the vdroop. Enable Loadline Calibration in CMOS to fix. In normal C1e+TM2 mode, vcore and ratio should drop to reduce power in C states (idle). ASUS does not comply w/ true C+P state but will reduce only the ratio from set value to lowest.

For the first part of your reply, for the last three ASUS boards I have owned I have never had a higher overclock by disabling EIST. I'll experiment with this one if you recommend it, but to me "EIST is unstable" is just a myth.
Second, about vdroop, from what I've read I'm unconvinced either way whether it is a good or a bad thing. I'm not sure I want to disable it. I was merely pointing out it's ironic that I'm running 1.37V@2.6GHz, and a lower voltage level at more than 1GHz faster.
Lastly, isn't it EIST that lowers the ratio? So if ASUS does not comply with true C+P states, if I don't set EIST, then my processor is running at full speed, full voltage all the time?
edit: I was just reading about C1E and EIST...C1E lowers the ratio, too, I guess? So there is no reason to enable EIST as far as I can see...

Sorry, correction, ASUS apears to lock out the TN2 function so it doesn't comply when overclocked. In full auto it does in either EIST or C1E+TM2. The "2" of the TM mode is what would also lower the vcore along w/ ratio. Or in other words, ratio is held on lower multi untill a CPU loading is called for usually over 3~7% or 7~15% then works at full spd. On a mobo that allowed TM2+C1E in an overclock, the vcore would also be lowere at idle too. So full spd is used when needed not just for playing MP3 or surfing the web. EIST steps between low to high multi ie: 6/7/8/9. This stepping is going on between the CPU and chipset where control is made so it does use system resorces to do its switcing. Whereas C1E is done on the die and no lag is felt when going from 6 to 9. You dont get 7/8. In EIST, it's the stepping of the middle ratios that cause a drag and is noticed by slight delay. So if your OC isn't rock solid, it may baug down and feel sloppy.
I believe most mobo makers tend to disable TM2 during manual OC mode so to keep stable. Cause if a certain CPU VID couldnt match a FID, it would or may just crash. This happened on my Abit w/ E6600 (where 1.12v was too low for 2.8GHz at 480FSB on 6x and yet it needed 1.45 @ 3.8GHz on the 8x.
Hope this helps a bit!

Nope, didn't work for me.
When I cold boot I also get DRAM voltage of 1.90V but changing the DDR2-REF to +10mV still resulted in a det dram hang. I have to enter the BIOS and exit in order for the board to boot. I'm thinking about sending this board back to Newegg since I signed up for their 1 year replacement plan.

2. So far it has shown to be worthwhile for some. Depends on how much you want to do.

1. x38 chipset vs x48 chipset (but both these versions are DDR2 mem)
2. IMO yes. Was easier to achive o/c to my experience.
3. I can post mine when I get home from work today since we have an almost identical setup except for the manufacture of the RAM.

I've had problems getting my RAM to boot with a 500 FSB with that tRD (disabled (0) is 8, right? ) in the past. Basically, when I set my FSB to 500 and put everything on AUTO, I was getting performance level 13!!! So you could try to manually set that up way high and walk it down. You might get it down to 10, but I'm not sure what that will do to your bandwidth and latency on the memory.
You also might want to try a 450 FSB and see what you can get there.

If anything else, if you could for me, confirm That they do 1153 on a 480x8 in 5:6 (everthing else the same for now). I'd be happy if I can match the performance of my Tracers at same clock and less vdimm. Right now I run 1 set as 1165MHz @ 5-5-5-15 @ 2.24v (row refresh -trfc @ 50).
I cannot speak for the worthyness of hacked BIOS so if all else try BETA v1004 and I can compare notes.
Does S3/STR function at such an oC level or at all in hacked Rampage BIOS, any version? Any word on the RMA experience if modded to Rampage BIOS upon return? Will they know if you can get it back to official Maximus Formula?

What BIOS ver and CPU and OS? I am on BETA v1004 and it does freeze at attempt to enter, as if stuck in S1 cause aI can see case led blink and hear HDD's pwr dwn. Yet it is unresponsive. I can however hard pwr off bt holding case pwr for over 4secs and pwr on cold boot with ease. I did however have the issue you mentioned in BETA v0907, always requiring a full pwr off and clear of stored energy and sometimes CMOS reset just to get to f1 option to enter set up. I never stuck around to figure it out and moved back to v0602 imediately. Too late, the damage was done.
I also read from the ASUS site that BETA v1004 also can corrupt eprom if flashed w/ Live update old versions. I played it safe and flash from now on in Afudos.

ja, I had to do that in v907 too. But in my current v1004 it is not in regular S1 or S3 caus eRAM is still lit up (Tracers) they never stayed lit during S3 on prrevious 903 and below BIOS. So something is not working for me either. Only my old Corsair Xpert PC2-6400's would remain lit with messgae on marque when in S3 or S1 of corse. They only went out in S4 and S5 of corse.
Anybody having any look with 266 strap at 480FSB to use DDR1204 in v1004? is it easier in v1006? How loose does the RAM need to be to boot? Or is it even worth it over 1165MHz at 333 strap in 485x8. I like only having to use as lil as 2.22v now. And real world app performance has not changed, if anything it is smoother and less app crashes like in NeroVision.

Priming a easy 3.825GHz (9x425) @1.45 volts. using 8/6 divider for a nice 1133MHz ram
Temps are hideous, idle at 52c and load is insane at 70c.
Ambiant air is rather warm here today 25c so that may account for the temp issue.
I have a Swiftech kit, 2x120 rad, stealth full coverage cooling the gpu and a Apogee GT for the cpu. NB is also in the mix using the stock fuzion block (SE for me)
Been priming for awhile now so I'm confident it will be solid at these settings

I am very interested in these too so I will be glad to help and see what they can do. Please include you reported RAM sub timings (highlighted in primary and secondary sections of DRAM timings). I do know for OCZ on 2x 2g moduals, they like to run a trfc of 50 or so at the same spd of a 2x 1g kit (as so for my OCZ Platinum PC2-6400 OC'd to 1050MHz0 @ 2.2v. Also look at what I edited for stability at 500x8.
All voltages as reported actual by CMOS power managemnet, This mobo overvolts
There bad both sticks failed the hell out of memtest test 6, no to the second question you can flash it back. Also rampage and maximus boards are physically the same. Bios is the only difference.

I found the MCR220 Barely adequate for an OCed Q6600 G0 with nothing else in the loop. I do believe you should seriously consider a radiator upgrade. ;)

I like my Maximus Formula but it's definite overkill for my little E6300... I'd like to get a quad (thinking Q6600) soon though. :D
There are some good tips here though, and I should flash to a newer BIOS since it's still on the one the board came with... (Me being lazy)

See my sig, and read my POST. I cant say for sure it's the best, but it sure is nice for decent 1200MHz, But it can really benifit from good cooling. And the light show is awsome.

I wouldn't say that. If anything, this mobo offers the best your E6300 can get. It can make the cheapest CPU's feel good. for example, 532FSB in 1:2 gives you 1066 RAM. I think we have higher dividers so you can get more on less FSB if your CPU lags. I got that on my P5WDG2-WS Pro so imagine how this mobo will do. Those E6300's were quite the clockers when it came to high FSB, Almost all 500+. I'd stick to stable official v0602 untill we hear better. This offers the best of ACPI support at 500FSB and is more then modern enough for an E6300. I can only say BETA v1004 is good for RAM tweaks w/ 2x 2g kits and less vdimm, but S3/STR does not work, so it's a trade off. Do not flash in Live Update to these newer BETA BIOS as they are often getting corrupted. Use Afudos for safest results, or EZ-Flash for official BIOS.

Whenever i try to overclock higher and get a Det Dram hang i up the NB Volt 1-2 steps and i am able to load with no issues. This work for me great.
I've tried upping the NB volts and I've had no success. Right now I'm 4 hours OCCT stable @ 1.55V (1.58V). I've upped it as far as 1.65V and I still have the same cold boot issue.
I'm just curious as to why this started happening when I switched to my QX9650. What does my processor have to do with the BIOS resetting my DIMM to 1.90V on cold boots. This never happened w/ my x6800.
So I managed to flashed it to Rampart (308) last night with ease. :) A OC noob talking here.
Now anyone with similar hardware can post their setting for me to give it a world? :)
This probably a stupid question but is 3.6 GHz a good target with air cooling?
Cheers,

Ok about my tri crossfirex setup, I am using vista premium 64bit os, and have ccc 8.4 and drivers installed. but still unable to get it to enable crossfire, it's still telling me I need to connect both crossfire bridges on my hd3870, and it's reading it as the main card, where I have to have it hooked up as my default monitor, and my 2nd monitor on my hd3870x2. So I have no clue what's going on and why I can't run 3gpu setup with these cards.

Just pop'd a Q6600 back in, bought it from ZenEffect ( has a nice and low VID)
My old quad ran at 450x8 with 1.52 volts, under full load I never saw temps above 65c.
This new quad at 425x9 with 1.45 volts, under full load it hits almost 80c
So my question is why the hell is it running so hot? Loop is still the same no changes made. Redid the tim twice, everytime I removed the water block it was well spread with full coverage. There is not a huge difference between cores maybe 3 or 4 degrees tops.
Any suggestions besides putting it in the fridge?

This seems to be a problem with lower VID chips. They clock MUCH better (as a general rule) but they are MUCH MUCH hotter!!!!!

i encountered the same thing, with a previous 737b668 i had w/ vid 1.325 i could run 1.6volts and would have the same temps as im having @ 1.464, but the cpu was not clocked nearly as high. my belief on this is that heat output is more due to mhz rather than volts. i lapped my cpu and it only dropped temps 3c so to combat that i just added more radiators and put all my fans in push pull 110cfm. now its nice and cool. i dont understand how or why it heats up that quickly but seeing it now on yours as well only makes me believe that the faster the cpu runs, the hotter it will get even without a voltage change. i guess i can confirm or bust this when i get home and try same volts w/ lower speed. what worked for me was adding another 2.120 rad. if you want i can send you the remainder of my cool laboratories liquid pro to see if that helps. should be good for a few more applications as ive only used it once. another thing i did to drop temps was on my gpu's i lowered the vcore to .875 and underclocked it while in 2d mode.

Right now I'm at 486x7 @ 1.488VCore (REAL, one notch past 1.5000V in BIOS) with this E6300 and I can't get stable any higher without fairly big increases in voltage (from what I've tried so far). I don't think it's my RAM holding me back at all since I've got G.Skill 2GBHZ's (D9GMH) which are rated for DDR2-800 running @ DDR2-972 which isn't really that much higher. The guy I bought this chip from had said (IIRC) that he used to run it @ 3200MHz 24/7 on air and the average OC for the E6300's on HWBot is about 3300MHz so I'd say it's not that bad. :)

I had to drop to 6x for 525+ to 533. it looks like drop in clock but made up for it big time in FSB and RAM. If you have good DDR800, it should get you 1000~1066 on 2.22v and 5-5-5-15(18). For me 532x6 was stable. w/ RAM in 1:1 DDR1066.
I think I had to go over barely 1.51v (actual). 515x6 was cool for 1.488v. I heard of some on this chipset going to 550, but I never tried yet. I dont even have it anymore.

Hey, I'm back, sorry to clog the thread with redundant questions but I'm having a lot of trouble searching.
I found out where I can apply a multimeter to measure the Vdimm, but I was wondering if anyone could show me where to measure some other values. I'm especially interested in Vcore, and Vnb, but I'd really like to know where to measure pretty much anything else. I think this information should definitely be in the first post.
Secondly, I've been trying to use the Asus AI Suite but if I use the AI Gear feature my computer just hangs. That's a stock speeds and auto voltage. It's not very important but it would be nice to be able to switch between performance and power saving without rebooting.

Let me know if you improve temps any, this is getting to me, my ambiant air is 18c and the quad is idle at 52c on 1.45 volts:shrug:

You might get a little improvement with pump>RAD>CPU>NB>GPU>RES as the pump adds a little heat to loop.

Are you useing XP or Vista?
XP 32-bit.
I don't know if it's just marketing-speak but ASUS' says that AI Gear "accesses all of the motherboards power saving features." This makes me wonder...do I have access to all of the power saving features unless I use AI Gear? I wish this software a.) didn't crash, b.) didn't suck and c.) had some actual documentation.
I've just got a new P5E in my system. Does the Rampage Formula BIOS help with vDroop issues? That would be the main reason for me to cross-flash.
I would like to know the answer to this, too. I've been digging around but it's hard to find out exactly what the benefits would be of converting my P5E.
------
One more question, I'm thinking of upgrading my RAM from 2x1GB. Is this board more comfortable with 2x2GB or 4x1GB? I would probably be running ddr2 800MHz ram, CL4, somewhere in between 400-440MHz in 1:1 timing.

I think your right, cant get 2 rads in a Thermaltake Soprano:D
Would there be any benifit in changing my loop order now with the 220 rad?
Current loop is pump>CPU>NB>GPU>RAD>RES
Comments or suggestions.....

I hear you. My ambients are about the same. My first loop is res>pump>rad>cpu>nb
When I remount everything, I'm going to check the flatness of both the Fuzion and the IHS and see what kind of contact I'm getting.

I have it mine is currently running at 1304Mhz at 2.26v on the maximus formula ive had it up close to 1400Mhz all at 5-5-5-15 2T timimgs.
The reason i asked is look at this review a guy wrote on the EGG is there compatabilty trouble with it at all

Pros: blinking lights are beautiful
Cons: Does not work with a X38 board
Other Thoughts: Be aware these sets have compatibility problems with X38 chipset, just search on Google for that. I have an ASUS Maximus Formula and there is no way I can make this memory work. Lots of error on Memtest86+ no matter what frequency, voltage or settings I use...

How about an M-audio Audiophile?
They should come around that price (at least over here they do).
Personally im not all for internal sound cards just because i know how much different the noise level and sound quality are with decent external ones. :)
But if you want something internal M-audio is the way to go.
(EAX HD not supported though i think, i guess Creative Audio has a copyright on that).

I don't know very much about motherboards but I do know a bit about sound cards.
I really hate creative based on their vista drivers and the way they squashed the third party vista drivers, but if you want to play games with EAX creative is pretty much your only choice. I would suggest this card by auzentech
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829156005) which is basically a creative chip stuck on a seriously high end sound card. The creative brand cards are not nearly as good as this guy when it comes to analog output and input.
The Audiophile is an excellent card but you're limited to 4 channels. The quality on those 4 channels will be pretty much the best you can get, but it's really designed more for a musician than a gamer or a home theater watcher. If all you need is 2 channel output, this sound card will be great. You won't get EAX but who cares, that pretty much makes your games sound like they're filtered through wet farts anyway. I dunno if it's just me but I would rather hear unadulterated sound effects.
For the best sound quality of every day applications like listening to mp3s, divx movies or games, you will want a card that has the best signal to noise ratio you can get. That's SNR, and the higher the better. If you are going to be watching hi-def movies and connecting to your own decoder system then as long as your sound card has digital out and 5.1 or 7.1 you will be all set.

Now I am trying to OC but I can't change CPU Ratio Control to "manual". I was able to change Ai Overclock Tuner to manual. Can someone help me out? Thanks.

The Loadline Calibrtion is built in to the P5E/E3 just like the Maximus and P5K, So hacking the BIOS just for that is pointless. Most are just doing it for bench scores in RAM scoring.
I would like to know the answer to this, too. I've been digging around but it's hard to find out exactly what the benefits would be of converting my P5E.

The MAXIMUS FORMULA is a binned out slightly better version of the P5E. So it offers a bit more. The only benifit is if you must have integrated eSATA on rear I/O and addition of optional onboard Wi-Fi. Otherwise, NO, no big benifits. if for the P5E3 Deluxe, then of corse, the gain is DDR3, Or if for the P5E3 Premium, teh big benifit is now X48 and DDR3, w/ 2 phase NB PWR and 3 phase VDIMM aswell a better stock cooling with real copper this time around.
I found better stability in 2x 2g @ DDR800 up to 1000MHz for overclocking v/s 4x 1g. It was less stree on the MCH and OC profile. You still need to loosen up timings a tad, but not as stressfull on chipset for overclocking. If you do need 4G's on an OC.

Thanks for the very detailed reply, Nuckin_Futs.
I basically know all I need to know except where to measure my Vcore and the like.
Also, I'm getting a Vdroop of around 20mV, like 1.38V to 1.36V when I am running my e8400 @ 3.6GHz or higher. I think I should do the Vdroop mod so that I'm not pushing an extra 200mV on my chip when it's idling. The mod is reversible, right? I mean, it's just a few strokes of graphite, so if it screws up your overclock I'm assuming you can just rub it off.

Anybody got this wierd error :
CPU core to bus ratio or VID configuration has failed.
Press F1 ( bios )
Press F2 load defaults
I press F1 then , in bios i press ESC and quit with no saving .
When i reset the pc no more error , got these only with a cold boot ...
OK , now i know from where the error comes .
Its from the MP , when i set it on 9 x 400 ( or 350/380/420/ ) no probs but if i change the MP to 10 or 8 then i get this error ( all the rest stays the same , voltages enz.. )
Is there a bug with this bios and the QX9650 ??

When everyone was having a ulcer over my post a week back, I called Crucial. ( no1 else seemed to be motivated enough to do so, it was easier to argue my claim)
The lady on the phone was dumb as a bag of hammers. I had to go to the web site and do a live support chat:shrug:
So I ask'd if the Ram was compatible and she could not find the Motherboard.
I pasted both Maximus and Rampage links from Asus. Many many mins later the cow came back and responded with..."Crucial no longer supports" compatability with B.T ram and these board, the only ram supported is PC5300. The class action law suit post was most amusing it seems to many ppl watch tv and try to apply the story of the week to real life. But if anyone has taken a few mins to read Asus QVL sheet you will see there is NO support for this ram.
Even back b4 christmas ppl were complaining on the failure rate of these dimms. Maybe we should chalk it up to degradation:rofl:

As for the Ballistix tracers, what is so different in them over the non Tracers (Gold Edition)? Do the LED's make that big a voltages stress? Also, both the Gold abd Tracers use binned top quality ic used in thier PC2-6500 anywyaz so I dont see the reasoning other then they are no longersupporting D9 Micron for overclocking, cause thats what a lot of the better ram is gonna, and has used.
How do they acc. for the many experienced users that knew how to cool them and ime them to last. Mine are over a year old now. I only recently managed to reduce vdimm under BETA v1004 casue of the trfc 50 setting. Best I can figure is the many score chacers forcing the tightest timings w/ hi=ghest vdimm (just to bench it) and wearing them donw. I believe you can stress any good RAM if you treat it like that.
As for the few, (retail reviews) who had bad experiences, I'd also bet a majority of it to user knowladge. I knew from the get go (like it or not) they get hot and need to be kept cool. But too many claimed RAM doesnt get hot enough to need any fancy cooling (quoted from many forums).
What RAM is taking Crucials place on X38/X48 for smooth DDR1200 on a 2 stick cinfig, either 2x 1gb or 2x 2gb. I'd like to stay with OCZ. Who has some good OCZ PC2-8500 to 1200+ on reasonable vdimm.

That's the one. And the top PCI slot too. I've only noticed the issues since the Cat 8.4 Drivers, BUT the problem is audio related, like sound suddenly crashes or starts buzzing but PC is still fine, even games. A reboot fixes it and I might not get it again for a few days but it does come back.
