Trans Booster only works with the 333 and 400 settings for me. Any others and I get DET DRAM hang. I also run my NB voltage higher. 1.67v or so with water cooling.

Edited my post. I left out 2 very important words: "for me".
My bad.
Keep in mind I am running 4x1GB sticks of 1066 (OCZ and Crucial) at 5-5-5-15 with Perf. lvl. set to 7. I am rather impressed overall.

I just checked CPU-Z and my memory settings look strange...why do JDEC #1, JDEC #2 and EPP #1 all have different timings and voltages?...shouldn't they all be the same/matching?...or is that normal?
also in the 2nd screenshot is the FSB.DRAM supposed to be running at 5:6?

Thanks for the info, I will see what I can do with it.

Either you got a dud mobo or some other hardware is hindering ya OC, really 3ghz is a no brainer...
Secondly you give us very little input here, I too can tell ya my cat is sick and... what can you do about it ?....
We need a full list of ya hardware, bios version used, fill in the template of the bios, temps you are getting...
thanks for your time
man, I can't believe. I've got 3.4ghz! in 10 seconds!
I was thinking that was needed to set all that strange parameters to get anything, like all of you listed in yours settings.
But so I "pretended" it was an ABIT, and made simple:
set FSB to 378x9
FSB STrap 400mhz
Vcore 1.375
all the rest on AUTO!
my BIOS is 505
just it! It's holding fine! got 5150 CPU score on 3dmark06,
and the temps are below 35ºC Idle
just can't raise the memos, but it was a nice start!

what is your ram rated at voltage wise? those volts are nuts! the maximus over-volts the dram alot. you are probably running 2.55-56 volts right there. TURN THAT DOWN RIGHT NOW! the ram i use is rated 2.35 and i set it at 2.26 in bios which gives me 2.35 exactly *real volts*

yea have tryed the Ballistix but not much luck either, also the ballistix wont reach 1300, and for some reason if the ram cant get to 1300 the bios wont try anything lower (even with Auto) and it will just DETRAM hang, have run MF0907 & 1004, and RF0219, understandabily with the RF bios it gives better ram dividers that lower the ddr speed a lil, but still cant get the high fsb's. really got me stuck this one huh

Yes 907 temps are way off, 1003 is acurate but I would recommend 1004, much bette bios imo.
Kup however recommends 505 for quad core, better clocks, improved stability.
Yes, I saw that recomendation :) but how is 505 bios with 4*1GB mem?

anyone else experiencing random lock ups during boot?...I'm using BIOS 0907 and every few times it just hangs on the boot screen right after it detects the memory as being OK...I can use the keyboard to hit the delete key and it shows "Entering BIOS" on the boot screen but it never goes past this screen...I have to hit the Reset key a few times for it to boot up properly...is this a problem with this BIOS?
I played around with my memory timings and things have gotten much better...I manually set the timings to 4-4-4-12 (G.Skill rated specs) from their default settings of 5-5-5-15...also manually changed the tRC setting from 'Auto' to 35...I left the DRAM voltage at 'Auto' which according to PC Probe II is set at 1.98V

The Rampage Formula with its adv ram tweaking under the transaction booster does not like 266 divider, use 333/400 and go from there. No matter how much voltage you give it, it will not use 266 from my testing.

you should really set it to about 1.9 and re-check your volts again to see exactly how much it over volts. not only is this information good to know, but the word "AUTO" scares the shistuffingst out of me when it comes to asus + voltage. once you know how much it over volts, correct your voltage once again in bios with the adjusted value you just figured out to the factory spec. you could probably squeeze more mhz out of your ram by relaxing your timings on ram, going beyond factory spec on voltage to the ram modules, or a combination of both... in my experience i cant do this by having the voltage on auto.

factory specs meaning 2.0-2.1V?
http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view.php?id=g_ddr2&no=98
that would mean raising the voltage from where it's at now...I thought having a lower DRAM voltage was better?...I thought the voltage listed on the manufacturer's website was the max recommended voltage?...or is the listed 2.0-2.1 the optimal voltage?

i had some nb/sb reading problems when i updated to the maximus rampage bios. a simple FULL uninstall and reinstall of everest fixed the problem. (make sure you backup your "Everest.ini" file before you do it if you have any custom settings...)
also, why not try the rampage bios ? everyone's been having amazing results...
The 1004 isn't the rampage bios is it? On the ASUS forums they sem to have all sorts of problems with the 1004, but might be an idea to try it :) Not going to use the rampage, as I don't want to loose waranty on the mobo, not sure I'll get another one for a 100$ ;)

Not Rampage bios but 1004 bios for Maximus Formula... works fine here with Q6600 and QX9650... with my usual settings and TRFC has again a wider range like with 1003 better for 2gig dimms...

So we've seen lower vcore, better bandwidth, more tweakings so far from this switch?
Maybe we should compile a list of the benefits brought about by the change.

Well, lower volts would be nice right there, especially for 24/7 on Penryn chips. If you can use lower volts, you can theoretically get higher clocks.

Now what to get guys? It has to be 1066 minimum that can do 1200. The 1200 kits look nice as well. 2x1GB preferred. Suggestions?

Yes, I saw that recomendation :) but how is 505 bios with 4*1GB mem?
I'm using 0602 with Q6600 and 8Gig ram and it works better for me than the later bios versions, also used 0505 on previous board and it worked great with 4x1 gig sticks, I actually hit 1200mhz ram with 4x1gig sticks with the 0505 bios on a previous board before I messed it up by going to 0907
If you can, try to stay with the 0505 or 0602 bios when using the Q6600.

Windows errors, F@H errors, and finally no POST. 1 stick completely died on me. It looks like an unstable overclock at first. But you know it's the RAM cause it will give errors in memtest even at stock.

odd, im feeling the exact opposite... but then again the only thing we have in common is the motherboard. ive experienced better bandwidth (rampage lets me overclock the mushkins to 1200 memtest stable pl6 while the maximus only allowed 1165 pl7) lower volts, alot lower actually which resulted in a higher 24/7 overclock to 4ghz now 24/7 usage 1.464 volts 8hrs prime95 small ffts before i killed it to play some games... and stupid me forgot to take screen shots but i plan to get prime stable with good volts at 450 fsb as im at 445 now. i can get 2 hours prime before core #2 throws an error. so i think i need 1.5 volts as i tested it at 1.49 for 450fsb.

Anyone clue me in on the differances between the 0907 Im running now and the 1004? Not sure if I should be happy with this BIOS or what if any benefits I might see with going with the 1004. And what about reverting back if I had any issues?
Under load Im seeing temps (using stock air cooler) of 67c - 70c on all cores. Ran OCCT for 1hr and Prime 1hr... not trying to push this too much on air, because within a couple weeks my case should be in and everything will be LC.

I noticed that the Maximus Formula has no tRC memory timing setting in the BIOS...I almost got tRFC confused with tRC in the BIOS and set tRFC to 35 thinking it was tRC...is there no tRC setting for me due to the G.Skill memory?...are the timings that show up in the BIOS dependant on what kind of memory/manufacturer you have?
0
but really... i guess you would have to call the manufacturer as there is too much involved to even begin to guess. i would just lower them until it becomes unstable then set it at the lowest stable voltage.
my guess would be 1.8V as that's the nominal DDR2 voltage

interesting... i cant set performance level to 7 manually with pull ins disabled, setting to 6 causes a det ram error, putting it to 8 i can post and all is stable. enabling pull ins i can get pl6 at cas5 and pl5 at cas4. it appears that one has to apply the anandtech formula as it seems to be correct after plugging in all the numbers. there is no real guessing at this when the rules of the article are applied and you know your hardware, its just a matter of figuring out to turn on or off pull ins which im pretty sure is one way or the other dependant on strap. we should really read back through this and compile a table of sorts.

My "write" and "copy" numbers are better than yours too. I'm sure I can duplicate your read numbers if I run everest tests a couple of times, instead of once. I'm about to start clocking this beast, but I'm a bit worried about my SB and NB temps as I'm reading that 47C is a critical limit.
I have QX6850 and have replaced all the stock coolers with water. My CPU idles at 22C and my GPU at 36C so I know that part is working, but my NB is at 41 and my SB is at 40 (idle). They are both cooled by Aqua Computer Twinplex XT di blocks.
I have 4x2GB Geil 8500 Black Dragon (@1066), 8800GTX and a pcie (4x) raid controller.
I *think* (fingers crossed) that the thermal paste (AS5) and seating is OK, but before I rip the board out and check I wanted to check with you guys if these are suspiciously high.
Any input welcome - thanks :)

Dostoyevsky77: More options setting tRFC and I could go down one notch Vcore in the bios since after flashing 1.368v was suddenly 1.352 in stead of 1.344 in CPUZ. Any new bios for the Rampage yet?

Wow you have no patience my friend.
We are still on betas and there is no official bios yet
(and we have already upcoming bios tweaking of X48!)
That is more than enough for me!

I fail to see how I'm impatient when I simply asked if there were any new bios floating about! We've had 3 in a matter of weeks so they're out there if we can find them...

Am I the only one having some issues with this?
If I go 1MHz above 3.6 Windows Defender crashes when I login :( This both happens with 451*8 and 401*9 :( But at 3600 it runs perfectly at 1.49V (E6600 B2) Upping the voltage doesn't help at all..
(I'm on water, both CPU and NB)
Any suggestions?

What complete BIOS settings for that 4050mhz? Voltages and everything.
let me get home from work today and i will post screen shots, im not writing everything down then typing it out :p:
@kup
if we want new bios' we should talk to our taiwanese chums over at vr-zone as all the beta bios' seem to be leaking from taiwan
for those who verified, can you tell me what's the cpu pll when set as "auto" ? this value increase when cpu is overclocked ? (always as "auto")
thanks :)

Quick question for you guys:
How hot is the NB running with the stock heatsink? I am getting a Rampage and just wanna know if I need to invest in a NB waterblock, or if I can simply direct some of the airflow from the case fan over the heatsink, and perhaps change the thermal tape to a proper TIM.
I'd love some voltage / temp numbers with 4 RAM sticks especially. :D
Spyrus

It depends of the fsb/strap. For daily use with 4sticks could be difficult for high clocks

Let's say a moderate overclock of a E8500 @ 450FSB and 4x2GB PC2-8500 sticks running near their rated speeds in ambient temps up to around 30C in the summertime. A bit faster in spring, fall and winter if possible.

typically i never see mine exceed 55c under a few hours of full load. 1.51 volts set in bios. i am using the stock heatsink just as it was from the factory (non se version) but i do have a small fan that i used nylon zip ties to strap it to the top.

With 2 small fans mouted on the cooling fans my NB temp is 47 C degrees with 1.55V, raising that voltage to 1.6 I get around 50 degrees. SB is around 40 degrees. A little to hot I think so gonna add some water cooling tomorrow.

Its the same board , the diffence is the bios which can be flashed over to the same as the rampage and the x48 is a speed binned x38
the rampage is expected to be in stock at the end of March, if its worth the extra depends on if you think the speed binned chip is worth the extra 40-50 quid i suppose

yes it is as easy as just flashing over the bios. the speed binned thing is the northbridge, and is pretty much a fancy seal of approval nothing more. from experience the x38 runs past 1600fsb with ease

Thanks those who posted temp numbers. :)
How is the Asus warranty policy when it comes to changing the chipset cooling? Will it void it? If it doesn't I'd get an actual Rampage, but if it does void it, there's really little point in not getting a maximus instead and flashing it to a rampage. Assuming the NB is the same quality of course.

Otherwise, it booted right into Vista x64. Goin to do more testing now... Thanks again M8's!!!

i think at this point the only way to lock out future bios' will be to completely redesign the motherboard. i may be wrong but i dont think there is much asus can do on the software side to lock us out.
I've narrowed down the multiplier bug to loading a saved profile and the multiplier not changing when you save and reboot.
If the multi is 9x and you load a profile with for example, 8x, if you save a reboot it stays stuck at 9x and when you boot it is at 9x in the bios. Set it to 8x manually now and then save and reboot and it should be fine. This is the only quirk I've found so far...

Correct. We've now got the flash tools to flash ANY bios to these boards, even if it had yet another ROMID or was even a completely incompatible bios, we could still force it to flash to our boards.

Is GTL dangerous at all or is it merely a 'setting' that doesn't affect temps or possibly damage any components? I have it on auto and can't get to 3.7 from my 3.6 OC even if I up all my voltages by 3 clicks. Should I just max my GTL or what?

Please investigate if this is the real deal, and apologies if you have already solved the issue! (too lazy to read through all the pages in the thread)....

Well ... if I try to flash from Rampage to Maximus using bios 1004 I get a "bootblock corrupted" message and AFU236U exits. If I flash using bios 907 everything is fine.
I haven't tried this with the older 226ES version of AFUDOS.
This might simply be the case of a beta bios not containing a complete bootblock.

Sweet. I love the Rampage BIOS options for memory. I'm now running @ 440x9 on Air. I still have some instability but I'm working it out slowly. Once I can nail this setting down I'm going to try for 4ghz+ being 444 FSB+. I've been thinking of running a small WC loop just for the NB to see if I can't get it's temps more under control. I'm worried that I might end up going crazy and build a whole WC rig and use DC200 for the coolant. I've had a few gallons sitting around for just the job. :) Thanks for all the work guys.

the problem is, best buy doesn't sell cpu's; only full systems :/
....plus even if best buy did sell it; the fact that your average e-tailer sells the q9550 for $500, BB's price wold probably be astronomically higher.

What are you NB volts and FSBT volts?
As listed in the BIOS: (not the values selected, but the actual values)
CPU: 1.480
CPU PLL: 1.616
FSB Termination: 1.456
DRAM: 2.352
NB: 1.648
SB: 1.072
SB 1.5: 1.536
Also I noted one peculiar thing - if I set all voltages to auto and boot with 266MHz FSB I get theese values: (same order as above)
CPU: 1.288
CPU PLL: 1.616
FSB Termination: 1.232
DRAM: 1.888
NB: 1.264
SB: 1.072
SB 1.5: 1.536
And if I change the FSB to 400 and up the vcore to 1.500 then I get these values (note the NB and the CPU PLL, they are still on auto..)
CPU: 1.496
CPU PLL: 1.632
FSB Termination: 1.456
DRAM: 2.368
NB: 1.632
SB: 1.072
SB 1.5: 1.536
Why do the NB and FSB T increase this much?
Also even though I select 1.5V CPU PLL, I cannot get below 1.61V when running 400MHz FSB

since i have a 500$ bestbuy gift card, i'm looking for some different ram... im just not happy with my crucial's anymore..
how would you rate them?
Thats them, I am very satified with the ram and would recommend them to anyone. They have even done 4-4-4-12 @2.35 Altho I would not use that for 24 / 7 use

just put Vcore 1.41, STRAP 400mhz, anb NB 1.5V
the biggest part of settings is AUTO
do you guys know if my 2x1gb Corsair XMS2 800mhz rev 5.2 / 5-5-5-12 at 1.9V can handle the clock of 1066????????
wich settings I should input to handle this OC???????

Anyone with a Q6600, I am noticing on BIOS startup screen that it's only seeing 2 cores. Didn't it used to say 4?
Vista 64 sees them and so does cpu-z. Maybe it's nothing to worry about?

thanks zen, but i mean when i change vcore in the BIOS, to say 1.400, when i enter windows and run cpuz or speedfan, i get a large deviation like 1.34 when idle, not under load, or if i enter 1.34 in bios i get 1.28 when idle, so if i want to get 1.4, it looks like ill have to increase vcore to like 1.5 or something, something is deff off
It's like Zen told ya it's Vdroop and without loadline calibration on, it will drop to an even lower level when loaded... eg my Q6600 needs 1.2 volts for 3ghz I need to set in maximus bios 1.2625 to get 1.21 volts under idle, when primed it drops to 1.2. for my Qx9650 even worse needs 1.38volts for 4ghz need to set 1.4750 to get it running smoothly...

It's been awhile since I'm using my 907. Should I upgrade to 1004 for my Q6600? It seems the 45nm has more benefits with this BIOS than the 65nm Quad and Dual.
If ya don't have any issues right now no need to upgrade the bios... I put it on for my 2 x 2Gb sticks and set Trfc to 60 as Tony suggested...

Glad I finally decided to buy a Maximus instead of waiting for a Rampage. I downloaded everything I need to flash back and forth between the two :D
Mine will be watercooled and I hope it will work better than my P5K-E which got tired of being stressed with 4 sticks and crapped the NB.
I will try to flash to Rampage and back to Maximus with 0907 version 2-3 times. If everything works, I can confirm so the OP can update the first post (it still have old informations which is confusing everyone now).

Yeah, P5E to Rampage works too. The second Ethernet won't work and there are a few other random things but as a whole the cross flash works.

The QX really deserves a better mobo than the stock P5E, that and the endless memory glitches/compatabilty with anything more than a modest overclock would've seen me changing the mobo soon anyway,

thanks again leeg. i guess i just feel a vcore of 1.34 is too much to get the q6600 at 3.2 ghz. i know i must need more though because with everything set auto except 9x355 FSB and 1.34 vcore, i get prime95 errors after 20 min.

I heard that the dual sided performed much better. He said he would exchange my defective one plus the other good single sided one for 2 new dual sided sticks.
Thats is GREAT customer service.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question or not.
But I have the Asus Maximus Formula. I was wondering if anyone here uses the Corsair cm2x2048-6400c5dhx memory with this board?
I bought this memory kit from buy.com. However both memory sticks appear defective. One stick won't even boot to the bios, the other will lock up soon as I start memtest.
Both sticks have the exact same problem in my amd board (Biostar). Yet one guy on the Corsair forums is trying to tell me its unlikely both sticks would be bad and that it must be my motherboard because its been discontinued.
This whole switch to an Intel setup is costing too much.
Now I don't know if I'm better off returning the ram for a refund, or having buy.com exchange it, or Corsair exchange it. Maybe the board is bad, I don't know, but personally I doubt it, seeing that it has the same problem on another totally different board.

This mobo is a limited edition. It has been discontinued from what I have heard. They were only manufacturing them for a certain time period.
Note: with the learning curve for this board I would have been happier sticking with my P35 Platinum MSI board (cheaper and almost as good), I was VERY happy with its over clocking and stability, but I got this ASUS free so I took it.
But on a good note, with all these good peeps in this community a lot of the guess work is done for any new owners of this board. Most new issues that come up now would probably be due to compatibility.

See if a friend will let you put that RAM into his mobo and test it, or take it to a local computer store. Also try a stick of another RAM in your mobo.
I think this board can be pretty picky with memory. Did you clear your cmos when installing this memory or was it the first sticks you put into it.
Maybe they need more than the default 1.8v the board boots with.

I did try it with another motherboard I own (AMD Biostar tforce 550) and it has the same problem with it. Both motherboards are on the Corsair "approved" list.
This ram came with a rebate, which I haven't sent yet. I would have probably purchased the Mushkin memory, but the Corsair was cheaper after rebate and on their approved list.

what i dont understand about the back plates of full cover waterblocks... WHY ARE THEY SHINY?!?!?
i dare anybody to argue with me, but just painting it black will reduce temps as black radiates heat better than any other color. more heat radiated, less heat on the component. why do you think radiators are black? :p:
i can show you thermal images proving this point.
if it didnt void my warranty, i would have painted all the heat pipes and "fin pin" hoopla to black.

n = Program NVRAM
c = Destroy System CMOS
Thanks. I worked without problem

I'm guessing cpu pll = SB2 in pcprobe2.
If so, it's 1.52

Ok time for some of my findings with this mod (BIOS 0219).
Logitech mouse in the outmost USB port nearest the LAN - the BIOS hangs at USBINIT - moving the mouse to another USB port and it boots perfectly.
FSB 452 gives 448MHz, 551 gives 551, and 553 553MHz
Multiplier reverts back to std. when loading an OC profile, making the board unable to boot. Must select the correct lower multiplier after loading the OC Profile. This is only an issue when running lower multiplier than default.
NB temps are reported lower, doubt it's because the NB actually runs cooler..
CPU temps seems to be reported more realistic than on the 0907 MF BIOS - which gave me silly low temps. (like 9 deg at boot)
The board still overvolts like crazy on FSBTT, NB, RAM, and others.
Performance:
This BIOS IS slightly faster than the latest MF bios. With the same settings both read, copy and write were higher, but not by much - the latency however is about 1ns better.
Overclocking:
I have not been able to overclock more than with the MF BIOS, but this is probably due to my cpu more than the board.
With the MF bios I was able to run 500MHz FSB, with the RF bios I'm not even able to boot at 480MHz - major drawback..
Now I'm able to use all memory dividers - with the MF there were some dividers that wouldn't boot at all.
Software:
Windows do not need a reinstall - however Everest no longer detects NB voltage, SB voltage and vcore is reported wrong. (1.1 when actual 1.50)
But all in all - I think this will be a very good board with more matured RF BIOS's.

Hey guys I've been away sorting GFX and lost track of this thread. What's considered the best BIOS for OC'ing now and can someone give me a hand OC'ing my E6750? Tried Renegade's original options fromt he start page my but my PC no likey. :(
I have had it up at 3.8Ghz but I'd like to try for 4Ghz if possible, if not then more stable settings for 3.8GHz (was just playing around with settings before - now my LC is here I hope I can get it set up nice n proper!)
