View Full Version : Can a P35 still cut it?

Heya! Long time no see.

Gonna build a new PC around an e8400 (When the bloody things appear in the UK ofc :P).

I've got it mostly specced up but i'm torn on the mobo. Its mostly for gaming but i'd still like to OC to 4ghz on water.

Will a P35 achieve this with these new Wolfdale's, or is it better to go x38? If it is ok with P35 it knocks quite a bit off the overall cost which = yey for me :P

Cheers,

Freddie

I think 965 might even 'cut' it ;) Look around, plenty off results here.

Lol ok, glad to see they're still good, especially as i'm really only interested in single GPU PC's atm :P Another question, while i'm here:

Asus P5K-E vs. Gigabyte DS4 for overclocking to 4Ghz and general gaming?

heard allot off good things about the ds4 in that regard but no first hand info so I'll wait for other to chime in on this. The same with your first question also, know 965 clocks them well but might be that p35 doesn't like them as much as those older chipsets.

Again like I said this info can be found by searching.. asking is just way easier ey :D

I did a few searches and got mixed things in terms of P35. Some people report cracking 4Ghz easy on a P5K-E and some say they can't get it stable at all. Can't find huge amounts on it combined with a DS4.

Ok sorry I impleid you hadn't looked before asking :)

I read the same thing about the p5k-e, but iirc Dinos or Eva ( some aussie that's for sure ) who had some very nice result with it. Might be mixing up dino's report on the ds3r though my memory isn't the best ( not even close ).

Found a few things saying the DS4 is great providing you get rev 2.1. So will probably go with that. I like Gigabytes too, generally fairly nice boards :D

Abit IP35 Pro, considered one of the best.

Muhahaha, it seems that the e8400 have come in cheaper than I anticipated allowing me to upgrade to a GA-X38-DS4 without upping my price :D Thanks for your replies though everyone :D
