View Full Version : Any news on the GPU client?

With my new setup, I could probably do some serious damage in one neat package with a GPU client, but I've heard nothing in a while... Any news?

I too would love a GPU client. My 8800GTX (and hopefully one of these days a 4870 or 4870 X2 crossfire?) is going to waste.

Still no news?
It's funny that when I do a google search for something, Google always sends me here. =p
I'd like to run a wcg gpu client also!!

there is no boinc or WCG gpu client. I wouldn't wait for this because nobody is working on this . Now, maybe if you could convince nn_step ;)
It would be a massive project anyhow and no easy task . Developing software for GPU's is brand new - not easy to find skilled programmers, I would think.

Pretty much what Jaco said, AFAIK WCG hasn't been working on a gpu client at all. Although there were some additions to boinc awhile ago that allow projects to tell what kind of gpu you have in case anyone wants to implement it.
It's F@H that's working on gpu clients. There could be other projects that're looking into it, but not that I've heard.

Yeah, I know F@H is, but I'd really like to stay fulling supporting WCG. It would be fantastic if they would work on the gpu client. It would give Dave a reason to buy a decent card or take one off of "the shelf". :D
Also, think of our point increase!
It's sad no one is working on a wcg gpu client. ='[

i just did a little searching about this and didnt see much, did see the page for F@H but says they dont support the nvidia cards. also, i read that to use a gpu to crunch it needs an available cpu core so that would be a loss.
on a different note, i did see a seti client for 8xxx model cards. dont know how different/hard it would be to reprogram that

Maybe I could run WCG on my CPU and SETI@home on my GPU. Interesting idea.

From what I understand, running a gpu client would degrade the cpu clients performance.

Larrabee will be a very nice turning point I think. Hugely programable x86 type co-processor. Of course that will be a while.

Only for SETI and alpha testing and but shows some hope.
This client is not ready for live use. It's a developmental project still in alpha-testing & "under-construction". What the developer is looking for is testing help. He also lives in Europe, "X time zones difference from the U.S. and like most of us volunteers, has a day job while working on this as time permits.
Cut him a little slack ; > )
I'm sure you'll get a response soon.
Wouldn't hold my breath for a native WCG version though.. :(

as much as I would love to help, I have WAY too many projects to deal with as is. (2 Operating systems, 1 CPU, 2 MMU, and 4 applications) I just don't have time to sleep let alone add another :(

F@H has similar goals to WCG--and you can get a lot more done with a good GPU on F@H and your CPU on WCG.
WCG > F@H

WCG > F@H
ATI > nVidia
Now that's nuff' said.
