Well, the BlackOps board finally got under something cold - under a two-stage ethylene cascade. Unfortunately we (Moonman & I) hit a FSB wall at 555-560MHz with E8500 that does ~ 620+ on P35), so looks like we will have to put additional cooling on NB (80W TEC most likely).

So instead of OC-report here's a DIY 100% seal-proof insulation guide. This installation applies for dry ice & liquid nitrogen cooling as well! :yepp:

Preparation of insulation sandwich - what we need:
- PL2 spray (not needed but i strongly advise it)
- role of 2mm self-adhesive Armaflex
- toilet paper or papel towels
- masking (paper) tape of 10-15mm width preferably

Step one - masking tape:

Step two - self adhesive Armaflex:

Those mem heatsinks attached to the mosfets with an adhesive or just resting on them with TIM?

Great guide! beautiful cutting job!

Great idea with the tape :D

One thing i may recomend is a couple layers of nail polish on there. You can remove it if you need to RMA, and helps form a seal proof layer on mobo.

Tib nice guide there. Did you get my PDF with the drawing you can just print at 100% (see attachment). How come you didnt do the mod to the board?

Lol, my B. I was just saying in general that i like to use nail polish. And how unlike conformal coating it can be removed

why masking tape

masking tape glue peels off when on LN2

Yeah, I'd skip the tape. I'm in the process of creating something like a "front-plate" that'll apply mounting pressure to the FRONT of the board to clamp the amraflex to the front of the board to help make a nice seal. Hope it all works out like I'm thinking.

Nice guide!

shame about low FSB with X48 seems to be like X38... probably need P35 for high FSB for 45nm cpus.
why masking tape

masking tape blue peels off when on LN2
I use insulation tape these days instead :)

Tnx Cpl.Planet, nice one :P The board is Vdroop resistor-modded, nothing else here.

The PWM sinks are attached with thermal adhesive tape. We always prefer conformal spray (PL2 spray) over nail polish, especially when the board is out of warranty :)

Thank you all! :yepp:

Yea I didnt see a VR there so I figured you didnt do it. I still had to fine tune mine after adding the variable resistor. I got some nice super macro shots of that area :p:

nice guide! the PL2 spray you use like you would nailpolish (i.e. on front and back around socket)?
