ASUS R.O.G. Pinot Noir Motherboard Previewed
The nForce 790i-powered Pinot Noir motherboard, part of the latest ASUS Republic of Gamers series, is now being showcased at CeBIT. What's uncommon in this motherboard is its unique water cooling solution. Furthermore this board can work with the latest Intel 45nm CPUs and utilize 4x DDR3 modules, three PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots and six SATA 3.0 Gbps connectors.

Don't forget the extra tubing...
That water block reminds me of a maze4

shame they put the barbs going outside the back of the case. would be much better over the NB. Not everyone likes tubing sticking out the back of their cases.
If they sort out the barbs and put them on NB then it would be a sweet board.

I thin this is X48 ;) not NV ;)
ASUS R.O.G. Pinotnoir have PCB like Maximus Extreme ;)

Looks nice and all but i wish these high-end motherboards would stop with the water-cooling nonsense, some of us REALLY don't like the thought of pumping water through our computers. That and they look ugly as sin.
Bring back the fan or make two variations... Or even 3 if people want passive.

Heh, doesn't Asus know that the target market for this board drinks a lot more beer than wine??
Sexy board though, seriously.

I think that BFG will take care of that audience. With the brand new BFG Heineken 730i. "If you are really drunk and oc your video card to death, you'll still have something to play FIFA on, untill RMA".
What a stupid name, is their marketing dept even thinking?

Love the name, hate the colour scheme, though that's easily fixed.

THIS IS NOT A 790i board gawd damn it ppl please stop just pedaling :banana::banana::banana: all over the net
look at the crosslinx
look at the board itself and look at other asus X38 boards from ROG series
What a stupid name, is their marketing dept even thinking?
they must have had a few bottles of Pinot Noir mate :D
Meh, if I'm going to watercool a chipset, I'd at least like the block to be positioned on the actual Northbridge, rather than rely on a heatpipe to bring the heat to the block.

Actually I'm enjoying one myself right now :p:

So Pinot Noir = X48 = essentially Rampage Extreme (to the analogy Blitz Formula / Blitz Extreme, Maximus Formula / Maximus Extreme, Rampage Formula / ...? )

It's X48 like Maxium Extreme(Asus ROG X38 DDR3) water-cooling version. You guys can find out with the pics.

This has to be the worst name for a motherboard ever! it's named after a bloody variety of grape!
Whats next the Nvidia Bree (cheese) graphics card and the Western Digital Dijon hard drive.
Stupid Stupid Stupid marketing department.:slapass:
by me it is GREAT name for mobo ...
If it is so great, what kind of market segment do you think this name caters to? The 30+ cigar smoking suit wearing hardcore overclocker?

Mobo looks like a kids toy with the glaring colors, looks like it was made by fisher price or tonka trucks. To each their own though.

Look at the PCB, though. It's 15-20mm longer than standard ATX. Beyond that i'm not sure how to react to the layout. Sure it could be good, but some things like the EPS connector will be clumbsy

790i ?

In the news around the net all of them talk about nvidia 790i , the mobo has 3 pci-e slots (maybe Tri-SLi??)
regards
lol, no, not 790i
as dinos said, looks like a slightly reworked maximus extreme
slim142
03-11-2008, 08:16 AM
Well if it was a X48, why would they put 3 PCI-E slots only? When ATI with crossfire can work with up to 4 cards.... I dont think ASUS left the fourth slot out on purpose specially when is a ROG mobo.
I hope this motherboard comes with 790i so I can buy it. Not really into Intel/ATI that much but w/e.
There is also something else to point. As many people pointed, it can also be X48 since there is no X48 with DDR3 from ASUS yet. Usually it will be Formula/Extreme but for the X48 there is only Rampage formula so far and Maximus II Formula/Extreme is reserved for P45 chipsets so.... there is a chance that Pinot Noir is actually the Rampage Extreme people been looking and waiting for.
And lets not forget that X in the southbridge heatsink which btw is pretty big so it might be cooling the SB and a crosslink chip.
Whatever it is, I beg God and ASUStek that this is actually a 790i motherboard because I need to build my new machine ASAP!!!!

I can just see the overclocking sessions guys are going to have now.
Smoking jackets, pipes filled with Captain Black, some Paganini on the hi-fi and a whole lot of... "well I must say ol' chap..." "my god Jeffrey, you spilled pinot noir on my pinot noir" "it's really liquid cooled now Jeeves, now isn't it!" "Group laugh...."
followed by tons of back patting, and a round of vintage 1901 sherry.

These chips look like those on the 975X boards to select 16x+0x or 8x+8x, so it gotta be P45.

Apparently the continual release of motherboards that have "special features" onboard is the new sales mantra. Honestly, the board looks really nice, but I don't have any desire to spend a fortune to buy into a board that has nice looks, but performance problems and or will die in 2 months. With so many boards having limited runs, any replacement down the line results in being stuck with whatever is on hand in the Asus warehouse. I guess the increased cost per board ofsets the cost of rma, upgrades, and whatever else...
I think the wine industry should sue, clearly Asus never used the Pinot grape in the process of making this motherboard, the board would be more acidy and have less tannin :)

Just to let every know sense there is still some confuse about this
Maximus II Extreme = P45
Pinot Noir = X48
You want me to prove the Pinot Noir, go look at a Maximus Extreme (Which is X38)

Thats whats I said before and what sounds reasonable. Still, no announcements neither any information about this motherboard. When Intel announced X48, after couple of weeks we already knew everything about Rampage Formula... but about Pinot Noir, we dont know anything and the release date for X48 is really close.
