Really, all they need is a decent CPU and this platform starts looking really very good... 45nm, higher clocked phenoms could go pretty well...

Indeed, this pared with an Intel CPU would be immense... Not sure why, but Nvidias equivalent offerign never thrilled me with enthusiasm.

yeah, AMD chipset engineers are very good on their jobs.
LOL dont know if you noticed, but where in the whole world I can find a Video Card with the eletronical components and the heatsink facing the cpu?

The heatsink is facing the CPU, but i think they did that to better illustrate when the discrete gfx is working/idling by looking at the fan

AMD/ATI always had the best performing intregrated graphics, the 690G chipset was the fastest for a very long time.
But I would love to see the same video if they crank up a DX10 game like Crysis and compare it.
The intel part wouldn't even be able to start the game I think.

If only Nvidia could get the power consumption down on their boards. It seems that there was a benefit of the AMD ATI merger. Something that out of the box for a low price can play semi-modern games at acceptable frames. I would like to see Intel's answer to this in their bigger focus on discrete graphics in the future. It is interesting to see that they are focusing on the HTPC area with their low power consumption and affordable pricing. I actually don't think that a Phenom processor is needed to complete the platform.
Anyone notice they said phenom like fee nome?

Hands down the best commercial AMDs marketing department has made. Its nice to see them actually do something positive. Ofcourse it doesnt hurt that 780G apparently kicks major ass. I wonder what 780D will be capable of. We'll be able to built a power efficient Crossfire system(780D supports both Crossfire X(X8 x 2) and Hybrid Graphics

I know this is mainly for a HTPC/Onboard video, but I'd love to see alteast 2 PCIE slots. I wonder what the differences would be between hybrid on one card and hybrid on 2.
Definitely a nice setup though. Wouldn't mind picking one up for a HTPC setup.

This looks pretty good, but I would like to see it with 2 16x pcie slots. With the performance of cards lately along with the low prices running multi card setups is almost a no brainer.
Will this be in the 790 chipset as well?

Chipset looks good, but not a revolution. Admittedly, I can't think of a single thing that would make a chipset revolutionary (from a system-wide standpoint) in these days though. The next revolution is getting rid of the chipset, IMO.
I like that it has decent 3D performance, hopefully it won't be buggy. Bugs and errata are the computing equivalent to blue balls.

So with hybrid crossfire, is the mobo's vga/dvi out still primary? and is the video card OFF, as in no heat being produced?
i want to see this in a laptop and on a desktop intel board.

If this chipset is as good as they say my life just got better. I can now pitch low cost PCs to people that still will play games decently, at a cost people will accept. I think my commission just went up!
Hybrid crossfire also has me really excited.

yes it really is! chipset is amazing and versatile, and it's really important for AMD, just like video says.
Just imagine, today Intel has the biggest market share on GFX market, and all they have is integrated graphics, and really bad one!
Point is integrated GFX market is great opportunity for AMD change its own situation, as well as look of IGP market, and from all that end user will benefit with really affordable and good product. You can expect to see some really good 780G mobos with price of just 50-60 euros!

Obviously AMD has brushed up 65nm process for K8 architecture! as a reminder X2 4850 works @ 2.5 GHz, and BE 2350 @ 2.1 GHz! retired X2 3800+ EE works @ 2GHz.

Looks awesome, to bad ,no Intel! I have always had a thing for those cute little m-atx boards. Wonder how the nv 8200 chipset will fare against this, things are looking up for us htpc builders anyways!
Im sure ill end up buying this as well, my wife will kill me,d**m!

in AMD forum there was already an IGP oc'ed to 1000.
nice chipset, when a full atx is available it will replace my gigabyte 690 sh3 full atx, which was the best in its class.
now where is that phenom 9100e to add to this nice system.

Oh, and... Tom's math sux:
690G vs. 780G
Benchmark Performance Improvement
Warhammer: 378.3%
Supreme Commander: 283.4%
UT 2004: 166.5%
Serious Sam 2: 168.8%
Quake 4: 231.2%
Prey: 213.8%
Average Overall: 352.9% (FAIL!)

Will that hybrid crossfire solution work (or work well) with higher end cards?
Oc-Ghost
03-04-2008, 09:49 AM
Not together with high/er cards, but future high end have support for powering off themselves in favor of IGP situations.
I have a 45W BE which clocks to 3GHz (if I wanted) and I'm after this for a HTPC or even with the 65W 9100e (if I get it free)... just picked up an Abit AX78 (770) but I might pick up the GBT 780G now too, it's available and I'm getting tempted. :D
Just too busy and believe it or not, at the girl whose flat I'm staying at, it's now out of space with all my IT gear. :(
AMD Launches "Puma" Mobile Platform
http://www.dailytech.com/AMD+Launches+Puma+Mobile+Platform/article10942.htm
And as I said before its a plataform with Griffin CPU + RS780M and not Nvidia IGP or so.
This leads to hybrid crossfire and the use of ATI discrete grafics in the models with discrete grafics.
AMD says that it has over 100 design wins with Puma and that systems will ship at the end of Q2. Puma-based notebooks will be included on notebooks ranging from $699 to $2,500 at launch.

The intel part wouldn't even be able to start the game I think.
Only the very few high end discrete graphics cards, >90W can play DX10 Crysis, and you expect this from IGP? NF2 was fastest IGP for long time. Until this week, 690G was fastest. And, 3x faster than 690G, it looks like 790G will be the fastest this year (better than nVidia and Intel). But, its still only IGP you are getting for "free".
(hypothetically)
Its easy to beat old Intel IGP which get 2-3fps on a good day (when the game doesnt crash, or not supported). new Intel IGP maybe 5x faster and lofty 15fps, but gets smashed by nVidia and AMD which have discrete like performance 30-40fps.
I reserve my decision till I can see some real life benchmarks.
Check out reviews. Tomshardware. It doesn't look pretty. Feel bad for folks buying Santa Rosa IGP chipset laptops. Buy I guess they dont care about HD or games anyway.
Oh and Tom's screwed up the math... its not 350% but more like 250% (off the top of my head).
Now all they need to do is get the same "revolution" in their processors, kind of like the launch of Athlon 64 way back when...
Amen. If AMD/ATI "could" ship these with ULV C2D, it would sell better than iPhone. Dont get me wrong, B3 Phenom will be great, especially 45nm, but would have been nice to have it now.

Not together with high/er cards, but future high end have support for powering off themselves in favor of IGP situations.
I think some of the reviews, (ughm tomshardware), make many mistakes. I think the 780V doesn't have HD. And 780G isn't first to have multiple monitor and HDMI.. 690G already had that.
All the Intel IGP comparisons are also rigged in Intel's favor since we know C2D is faster than X2. And last time Intel released DX9 IGP it took almost a year for drivers with PS and VS, so dont hold your breath you'll be playing Crysis.
So (obviously) only nVidia will make IGP for both AMD and Intel, right? But, when you add nVidia 8400 into their IGP and use Hybrid SLI it will be faster. If you add AMD 3400 into their IGP and use Hybrid CF it will be faster. But, for Intel if you put any of these video cards, it will just disable IGP, and just discrete.

That doesnt sound good although that blog writer is quite obviously exaggerating not to mention advertises Nvidias upcoming chipset. I'd like to have this confirmed by a more reliable source. I mean it could just be a Bios bug. It doesnt really make sense for there to be problems with low clocks.

The commercial and the test at hexus have a G35, which is the newest
intel igp; and it's squarely beaten.
And last time Intel released DX9 IGP it took almost a year for drivers with PS and VS, so dont hold your breath you'll be playing Crysis.

Yep, even though G35 was advertised as DX10-capable, there wont be drivers
for it till the summer at least, and it will only be Dx9 till then.
nV has the 8200 igp coming soon, but the 8300 was delayed because of
heat issues - and from that it sounds like it will not be good for laptops.
(Or maybe it was 8100 soon and 8200 being delayed? Not 100% sure which).
