Foxconn "ELA" P45 will be typical representative of an high-end Intel motherboard powered by Intel's P45 performance chipset paired with the ICH10R south bridge. As seen on the pictures and board specs, the "ELA" P45 will support the latest 45nm Intel Core 2 processors with FSB up to 1333MHz, up to 8GB of 1066MHz DDR2 memory and three PCI-e 2.0 16x graphics slots. The board's design and color scheme does not differ much from other Foxconn products. The remaining part of the specs lies beneath.

hmmm DDR2 board
what about DDR3

shamino hinted in another thread it may compete with those 965 boards for FSB

fingers crossed

love the clearance around the socket

I love how the northbridge is no longer below the socket but to the right of it :D

ICH10R hellz yes.

:O

ICH10 + PCI??

BTW I also love the new NB placement, seems that it's the new standard for P45 boards

What's the chip between two PCI-E slots? is it a PCI controller or?

i love the digital 8 phase pwm. apparently, p45 (from the pictures) isn't native 8x8, and needs a pci-e splitter for "real" crossfire. however, the performance difference between 8x8 and 16x4 is neglible

EDIT: stupid me, i didn't see the third x16 slot, so that probably means that p45 is true 8x8, but the third one is being fed x4, so it effectivly becomes 8x4x4 i think...

If they make these in single PCIe 2.0 16x slot format, i can jump to this from my P5B-E....i'm about due for an upgrade, too...

I like the layout, but still damn ugly because of all the colors.

LOL at the previous post....

Screw the color scheme, just take a look at this 8-phase digital PWM. If it's tuned as it is on BlackOps board, then DAMN watch out all P965 abusers! :yepp:

Well, looking at that board certainly keeps you awake, and that comes in handy for long benching sessions :p:

Do you need USB keyboard for this mobo? On that picture it looks like that. :p:

You need a USB keyboard, but you can use an old PS2 mouse :D

@ xoqolatl
That's a PCI Express switch like the one on the Asus Blitz.
The 3 slots on this boards must work at 8x (PCIe 2.0).
3x 3870 CrossfireX FTW!

that is a hell of a cool design.
definatly thinking outside the box.
definatly working to get more room back for all these crazy 3 videocard set ups.

Now just swap that last PCIe and PCI slot and you are golden. Otherwise a really nice layout  I want one, just need to find some separate NB/PWM cooling.

This looks like another work of art from Foxconn. 3 x 16x pci-e. :yepp:

so what's the last s775 board? this p45 i assume?
Anybody has info on that?

P45/X48 are the last LGA775 chipsets. I imagine we'll still see a few more boards up until mid summer after which the new socket should start to really build up momentum with ES boards hitting the underground in middle Fall.

It looks like the same chip that is on their transformer board. It is a PCI-E splitter.

With DDR2 support this board looks little obsolete.

16 + 4 split into 8 + 8 + 4?

No, split 8x+8x in 8x+8x+8x
Don't worry, it's way better than 16x+4x.

P45 is 8x+8x like the 975X but with PCIe Gen2.

Give me one good reason to buy DDR3 apart from it being nice to play with. DDR2 is still a very viable option.

Actually it is the only viable option for those who don't have tons of money...

Give me a sub $150 2x2GB kit and I'll buy it :p:

If you don't have money, you need 3x full PCI-E?

No, most need only 2 maximum. The third can be used for PCIe 1x cards or anything that comes out in the future that needs faster PCIe.
yeah runs faster :D

Looks like a nice board, shame the colours used make it look worse than a gigabyte mobo.

3 full PCI-E? Of course not.

Perfomance gains of DDR3 over DDR2 just doesn't justify the price gains (at least for now). You can spend the money you would spend on DDR3 in way more useful parts ;)

Nothing can be worse than a Gigashyte mobo, talking about colors

Performance, less power consumption, easier to install, futureproof.
Seeing this board it won't cost much less than 200$ anyways.
I have been tested almost every DDR2 memory out here, and lots of DDR3. If you can get board that expensive, you'll find money for DDR3 too. Its just too expensive for DDR2 and it will be available in market after few months anyway.

Lets hope by the time of P45 mass availability DDR3 prices will drop at least 2x times, better yet 3x times.

The board is great except the heatpipe. Hope there will be heatpipe-less DDR3 boards with 8-phase digital VRM.

Why is it the first thing I think of when looking at this motherboard is..."Lego"???
I'm really liking the chipset placement! However, I can see it being a problem with some heatsinks.

Considering i could buy almost 3 3870 with the money saved from getting 4Go of DDR2 instead of DDR3, i'd say it's very wise :yepp:

That's my point. I can get... 3? 4? 5 DDR3 memory kits? Yes, but I prefer to spend that money in something way more useful to the 24/7 use of my PC. Of course, for benching and testing, DDR3 wins without a doubt.

from: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=179751Looks like the P45 is not 8x+8x native, manufacturers will have to include the IDT PCIe splitter to offer proper Crossfire solution with this chipset.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/03/05/intel_p45_chipset_spotted_naked_/1Foxconn also showed off its P45 Digital Life ELA board with three PCI-Express x16 slots – two x8 from the same IDT splitter chip and the third at x4, as well as a very strangely placed northbridge plopped between the CPU and memory! The ELA nomenclature comes from the “Eagle Lake” codename Intel gave the P45 chipset – Foxconn are apparently proud of this because “it helped Intel design the Eaglelake”. It’s P45A-S is better looking with its black PCB, but it lacks the IDT splitter chip and now only has a PCI-Express x16 and x4 slots, even if the layout is a bit more traditional.
