MSI will release a version of the 9600GT with 2 GiByte video memory (red cooler). The use of sucha card is highly doubtful...

They will also release a semi passiv cooled 8800 GT that seems to be based on a Zalman VF1050 cooler. The fan starts spinning when the GPU temperature reaches 85C and stops when the temperature is at 40C. There is either fan off or fan speed 100%.

That's just stupid :S

For the 9600GT you don't need a 2048MB card, it's plain useless, 1024MB could still have some use, but double of that is just wasting memory....

For the 8800GT, I see it getting to 85C and then revving up that small fan, which can't make the card get to 40C and it will stay buzzing if you have a warm case.

I think the market doesn't need such products, but that's just me...

I like the red PCB's. :D
I cant stand green PCB's because its looks so cheap.

2gb is just ridicules, it only makes the card more expensive.

Cooling system looks innovative, but I don't like the plastic-look. 2 GiB are useless, the 8800GT is IMHO better.

Naah, 2GB makes perfect sense! How else do you get rid of useless stockpiled RAM?:-)

Agree with alfaunits here, Qimonda GDDR3 is only good for...
...sorry, I can't think of anything.

edit:
Well, duh! Some idea encasing the supposedly passive heatsink of the "semi passive 8800GT" in a plastic case. It's likely the fan will never power down because of this. And as a cherry on the top of this lamecake, it's an on/off fan. This must be the noisiest passive cooling system ever.

And as a cherry on the top of this lamecake,

:D Well put.
MSI started FAILing with their mobos in recent years, and it seems this is
spreading on into their graphics department :shakes:

Why pictures does not have big FAIL watermark on them?
9600GT 2GB jeez, reminds me of 6200TC 512MB.

Should just take 512mb of much faster ram and put it on there.

But then they won't sell to noobs, while clearing stock.
