PAGE1:AMD dual core Sempron comes to the market
After core 2 duo Celeron got into the market AMD faced to more pressure. In order to compete with Celeron E1000 series, AMD released dual core Sempron. In current, the products have launched China market and one of them is 2100+, 1.8GHz.

Kinda late, but I guess its still nice that AMD finally has some cheap duallies. Now wheres my quad sempron? And why the hell did they call it a 2100+?

Shocker!
A dual core K8 performs like a dual core K8!
:o
Really, this should've been launched 2 years ago.

Reading that article makes me feel I'm back in 2005 for some reason.

It's very good news for poor countries. Besides those Semprons are fast enough for almost everything.
They are based on G1 rev. so 2.6-3.0GHz OC can be expected as well :)

cheap? so what now they have a duel core for $20?
cheapest one on new egg is $47 it don get much cheaper then that :)

I think it's great.
Literally about 3 hours before seeing this thread I was browsing the MSY priceless thinking.. damn, why don't AMD make a dual core sempron.. as I toss up whether to go a 4400+ or LE-1620 for a friends upgrade..
and then this appears.. I no longer have to
A. think about it
B. Give intel money for an E1200

Nice. Another cheap DC *ron, but this time with power-saving!
I'll be waiting for 780G+sp and this to be released, will make a great htpc+
server+surfer+office+etc machine for cheap.

I agree, how much are these going to cost? I can't see them making profit on a $20 processor and even if it's $30-$40 I'd rather fork up the extra ~$10 and get an Athlon X2 4000+ for $47 like knightwolf said...

it looks like there's some G2 steppings coming, and a 2ghz model, according to wikipedia... dunno who added those details, maybe someone from AMD, hopefully :p
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Sempron_microprocessors#.22Brisbane.22 _.28Socket_AM2.2C_Dual-core.2C_G1_.26_G2.2C_65_nm.29
so the 3600x2 they used for comparison in the review (90nm, 2ghz, 256kbx2, 1000mhz HT) had nearly the same specs as the sempron 2200 (65nm, 2ghz, 256kbx2, 800mhz HT)
Dual-core Sempron + RS780 = super cheap computer very good multimedia stuf.
In China, India and other emergent markets this is a very good cpu.
Remember that the previsions is that in final of 2008 only 15% of the CPU´s will be quad-core. The rest will be single, dual, tri core.

Not bad at all, good move by AMD, it would have been stupid to let Intel rule the $50 DC market by itself.
The only problem I see with the Sempr0n and Celerons is that much better CPUs in X2s and E21x0s are only slightly more expensive. When a total system costs $500 or more, spending an extra $20 on the CPU to get 25% more performance is a no brainer.

3600 X2 was $30 and 3800 X2 was $40 on newegg a month ago or so
This seems like the new geode, if anything

I have to agree. The low end x2s are much better values even for super cheap systems. As for the E1200, its cache was halved one too many times.

Yes the E1200 i will call a "butchered" chip, for a few more bucks you have Pentium dual core. How much longer until single cores are extinct??

Even with the castrated L2, Celeron E has similar IPC to K8. It's simply clocked too low at 1.6GHz, if it was a 2GHz instead it could start to compete with the entry level X2s. Then again, at 2GHz it would start competing with Intels Pentium Es as well, and they don't want that, do they... ;)

OLD OLD OLD news.
Seriously, my another rig has OLD dual core Sempron. Seriously, 256KB of L2 per core, just like Semprons have. All hail Athlon X2 3600+.
So, it is just a 2 sempron cores in one package. A dual core sempron! :( Why do they fool people with this naming scheme?

Uhm,wth?Same package??This is not a MCM...
No it is just the same as present Brisbanes(monolithic dual cores) with half the L2 cache. It's based on G1 and G2 revisions,so should clock nice(2.6-3GHz).
