Have you:
Tried different media? (sounds the most logical explaination... i hate bad media)
Tried different burning program?
Does the drive(s) read all discs properly?

What OS?
What flavor drive(s)? (SATA or IDE)

And yes they do work very well as cup holders when all else fails!

Are the drives seen in BIOS? If they are, are they seen in the OS? Do you see conflicts in device manager? What errors are you getting in your burning software (and what is the software) ?

so they worked for a bit and then stopped working without you changing any settings? i don't know what could cause two optical drives to go bad so quick.

no siree didnt change any settings. Sounds like they are tryingh to spin up but i can hear the drive "clicking" should i take them back to the shop and get them exchanged?

Strange thing is that both died. So im going to try a re format

try troubleshooting the cables and the motherboard first. if they're SATA drives, try plugging them into different SATA ports on the mobo. make sure your connections are good. if they're IDE, make sure you have slave and master set correctly and have the burner at the end of the IDE cable with the ROM drive in the middle. also try a different cable and see if that fixes it.

the odds of two DVD drives going bad at the same time are almost nil. the only thing i can think of that would have killed both drives like that would possibly be a spike from your power supply? even that isn't something you hear about very often.

well i did plug in an old IDE HDD the other day to pull some data of it. and it melted it. But the rest of my pc seems to be running perfect. Thing is at the time the IDE HDD melted, i had it on the same cable as the DVD Drives, i use a molex to sata to power my drives for simply hiding wires.

i was in a rush plugged in my ide hDD while the pc was running and ive probably spiked my PSU and zapped anything on that rail. gg. fer nubs. lock thread for idiocy.
