I like it alot, but it's not for gaming, IMHO.

Sound is noticibly better in Vista than XP...something to consider as well(altohugh almsot every sound card I've tried, including onboard audios, have better sound in Vista).

It IS the best pci-e option right now tho. X-FI on PCI-E is not a real X-FI, so with that in mind, yeah buy it.

Thx for the input. I to am not a gamer, but I play them sometimes. I am also running Windows Vista. I think I would be better getting Asus then Creative. They have serious problems!

Well, my uses of the card don't really give an accurate look at how it performs...I merely use it to encode the audio going out into DTS format, and let my real audio equipment do the sound processing. In that regard, the card works great.

The analogue out is a bit muddy, personal preference tho. I run a 10-year old Sony amp, left and right sub out(no single sub gives good positioning, IMHO), listen to audio with the subs turned off, I pretty picky about things, but I'm not extreme enough in that regard to be considered the end-all be-all.

The only addition this card has over onboard sound, for me, is multi-channel digital encoding. I was expecting a bit more out of it, to be completely honest, for it's price, but I was stuck needing the encode, and pci-e connectivity.

I say go for it. Aslong as you know what features the card has and doesn't have, your good. I found the sound quality from the Xonar line to be very good.
Hope this helps.

Maybe you should hold off buying the Xonar D2 or D2X as they have some newer cards coming out that might offer more features to you. If your interested in gaming the Xonar cards have great gaming features...
