It seems I have Been Waiting for so long, but with more an more screens of the 9800 series popping up It dosen't seem like it is impressing me...
Should I just wait for 9800 series, or get the 8800 GTS 512 Since their both G92 core anyhow...?

Nothing is confirmed, but all the rumors point toward a crappy 9800GTX. That's all I'll say.

From what I've read/seen, the 9800 seems to be a slightly updated version of the 8800GTS 512. To me it seems that they should've just called it 8900, and not 9800. http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeForce_9800_GTX_Card_Photos_%26_Specs_Unveiled/5599.html (http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeForce_9800_GTX_Card_Photos_%26_Specs_Unveiled/5599.html)
If I were you, I'd wait until the 9800 comes out, then pick up some 8800 GTS's for cheaper than now!

I agree. For something that scores about 14k in 3DMark06, the GTS is defenetly worth getting.

how much improvement are you gunna see from wot you already have?
2x9800gtx or 2x 8800gts512's vs your ultra/gtx sli...much of a muchness surely.
3/8th's of 1/4 of stuff all:lol:
dual gx2's probly give you a boost if the drivers work for whatever app you are using.

NVIDIA confirms Next-Gen close to 1TFlop in 4Q07
Wednesday 23rd May 2007, 12:12:43 PM, written by Arun
In recent analyst conferences that were publicly webcast on NVIDIA's website, Michael Hara (VP of Investor Relations) has claimed that their next-generation chip, also known as G92 in the rumour mill, will deliver close to one teraflop of performance. In a separate answer to an analyst's question, he also noted that they have no intention from diverging from the cycle they have adopted with the G80, which is to have the high-end part ready at the end of the year and release the lower-end derivatives in the spring.
It was our first info on the GX2... (The intended 1TF Beast)
Then the devastating news to me that the 1TF in 07 was undoable:
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4045&Itemid=1
"Nvidia told a few souls that its new high-end card is getting ready for Q1 2008 launch. Nvidia knows it is too late for the holiday season, but it didn't have much option, as its new high-end card was simply not ready for Q4 2007.
The whole new high-end is codenamed D8E. Enthusiasts will have two chipsets on two PCB's with two huge power connectors. Most of you remember the 7950 GX2, and this will be a similar card. We still have to confirm if the chipsets on this card are two G92s, but we heavily suspect that Nvidia can enable the eight cluster of this 65nanometer chip and make the current 8800 GT chip even faster. If Nvidia does that, the 8800 GT chip will become an 8800 GTS 512MB, just with a touch of a flash tool.
After all, the G92 has more transistors than the G80, which means it has at least the same brute power, faster Shaders and new video processors; and we are sure that it has eight clusters, which are just as many as the G80 has.
Two of these chips should run very fast and we believe that such a card should be able to beat R680, ATI’s high-end card scheduled for the same release timeframe.
Nvidia also plans a new single chipset high-end card for mid 2008 codenamed G100, or D9E".
Needless to say I was crushed... :(
Now we fast foward to Feb 08, all ready for the Big Dogs release after getting our appetites wetted by a speedy G92 8800 GT and GTS, and the news breaks of the 9 Series GTX and GX2's release at the end of Feb, or early March.
The excitement builds again.... There going to be released!... There going to be released!.. Could be runners?? :) :D
Then we have to get some dude posting an OC'ed picture of an alleged GTX hitting only 14K....
http://www.techpowerup.com/53685/NVIDIA_GeForce_9800_GTX_Scores_14K_in_3DMark06.htm l
Can't be true.. naaaa. Not the 9800 GTX right....
Then this which added more credibility to the 14K on the 9800 GTX: http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeFo...arch/5602.html
Note:Nvidia has informed their partners the upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 launch is delayed again till March 18th. No reasons provided by Nvidia. However, it is probably due to drivers issue according to partners. Right now, the card is scoring about 14K+ in 3DMark06, lower than the Radeon HD 3870 X2.
So now the GTX and GX2 both are getting 14K in 3DMark06? I am seeing a pattern... Disturbing yes, but still a pattern. It also is a known thing that cards in SLI that aren't working properly, can give you the same score of a single GPU. The 14K again... Gasp! This could be what is going on. Not sure, but believe there is now a speed issue going on with both cards...
Then more conformation on the delay...

"Oh yes, we probably should mention that the 9800X2, or whatever they call it, has also moved from CeBIT to the end of March, for now. Before you get all hot and bothered, this is basically a couple of downclocked G92s on 2 PCBs".
Not exactly a good intro for the new 1TF Speed King, hugh? ...
Sounds kinda 14K'ish to me.
Thank God we had theinquirer tip us off.....
We would probably still be expecting it's release any day.
And still expecting the 1TF nVidia promised us in 07.
The rumor sites are letting us down as gently as possible, but still feels like a plenty hard landing to me.
We have a good 30 more days I bet before we know for sure? Sigh....
In short, I wouldn't rush for the 9800 GTX or GX2 yet... ;)

I got B*U*R*N*E*D with the whole 8800GTX / SLI / VISTA quagmire. Personally, I'm going to wait until my 8800s are a pile of dust in the case before I blow that much money on a new set of video cards...........

I personally think the 9xxx series of video cards are nothing more advanced then the 8800GT/GTS era. They use the G92 gpu. I think ATi might finally have the advantage this time around, not only because the 3870x2 is a solid performer, but Crossfire scales much better then SLi. With the ability to run a 3870 (which most of us have already) and a new 3870x2 for a total of 3 GPU's and 1.5GB video ram for a minimal cost, performance will be great! Im in no way a ATi fanboy, or an nvidia hater (I love nvidia) but ATi I think clearly has this round.
