View Full Version : Swiftech Microres Top Fillport question

So I made a mistake in understanding what Petra meant by the retapping the top fillport to the 1/4" whatever. I originally thought it was to size it for the threads used in a Thermochil Radiator...now that I have the Microres I see that it doesn't even match the inlet and outlet ports and that the EK High Flow barbs I have won't fit in the top filport.

So my question is, what do I need to do, or who would I talk to to get it so that my EK barb will fit in the top filport area of the Microres?

*edit* looking this over again...damn I make no sense at all. Ouch!

buy g1/4" ek barbs around 2 bucks each easy fix.. thermochill barbs are g3/8"

Never use the top hole as a inlet or outlet, use only the side holes. Tapping the top hole is only to add a fillport and tube or temp sensor.

I currently have EK 1/4" barbs, but they dont fit either. I thought incorrctly that the retapping was to fit thermochil barbs...but apparently it is to fit any barb at all.

I want to use the top opening for a DangerDen Fillport I have...but I need to have a barb in the top opening to do so (or don't I?).

That's right. Just use any G1/4" barbs and not the G3/8" (this is what Thermochill barbs is sized).

Maybe it is just me...but the G1/4" barbs I have work GREAT on the two side ports...but I can't for the life of me to get it to fit in the top port. Is it supposed to fit in tht top port? The little rubber cap seems to be a slightly smaller diameter screw than what goes in the side ports on the Microres.

Maybe I am confusing things more than they need to be but...

I have 3 EK High Flow G1/4" Barbs http://www.petrastechshop.com/ekhifig1th1o.html for each of my two Microres'. Two of them fit perfectly in the side inlet and outlet ports...but the third does not want to fit in the top opening.

This is the issue I am having. Should I be able to fit a barb in the top opening? I was doing this so that I could connect tubing between a Dangerden Fillport and the Microres.

Ok, I see now... Did you specify to retap the top hole ? This looks like it's not done. Having the option to retap doesn't mean all of them is retapped.

What he said.. and does the Plastic cap/plug fit in the hole up top? maybe it was never tapped.. or you didnt choose to add the Tapping option when you bought it.. check your invoice to see if it was paid for .. and if you did and the plug/cap fits then it wasnt tapped and you should contact petra to see about getting a replacement that has been tapped

It was not tapped. I guess I explained it poorly. I thought getting it tapped was to change it from fitting a G1/4" to fitting the Thermochill barb sizes. That was my mistake.

Since it is not tapped...what do I need to do now in order to get it tapped or get it to work with a fillport? Or am I just sunk and need to buy new ones?

to re-tap it to permanently modify the thread pitch and diameter with a tap-set. I actually just picked one up for this exact purpose. I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok, from what I understand, you thought tapping was to get to the bigger hole (G3/8") and thought the original hole is G1/4" so you didn't ask to retap. In that case, the original hole is smaller than G1/4" so you must either find someone to retap it locally or order another one by requesting it to be retapped.

Where are you from ? I guess there is a language barrier in all of this.

Assuming you have a G1/4" tap set, which is not cheap

Ooooh where did you get the Tap Set from?

Sadly I am from the US...just exceedingly tired and not describing my issue well. But you hit the nail on the head with your last description. I bought it stock believing it was normally a g1/4" thread...and now need to correct my mistake and tap it so that it will be g1/4" thread.

Go to Mcmaster and copy/paste "8328A22" into the search box, problem solved.

LOL

I think he ordered it from McMaster (item #8328A42, BSPP version). However, I ponder if this item include a drill and if not, you need to also order a 11.8mm drill.

Drill bit is not needed for the res, I've done 2 and they're just fine. The PG7 thread is so ridiculously close to G1/4" that once you get the first thread with the tap, your good all the way in.

Excellent! Thank you guys very much. Going to have to order one of those up myself.

Thanks for the drill bit clarification, I forgot it's indeed almost the same diameter as the tap itself so it will be able to remove the material fine without a drill. For other purposes, we need to order a 11.8mm drill bit anyway.

That's exactly where I got it and I am not using a drill. I assumed as much with the size and ease of tapping acrylic.

I also ordered this stand for the pump. I plan to re-layout my loop for whenever an ATI card comes out that is actually worth watercooling.

I also plan to use this DD-Highflow Stubby fitting.
