Hey,
I got this game a week ago, and I have been gaming it alot.
However, last night, I began having problems with the multiplayer part. It began lagging, and no matter how I set the graphics or anything, it didnt stop. On the single player mode there is no trobule. The multiplayer part also worked perfectly before.
My system specs are as follow:
Intel Core2 Duo E6750
Asus P5K-E/WiFi/AP
4gb Corsair XMS2 PC6400
BFG GeForce 8800GT OC2
250gb SataII harddrive.
What might the problem be? I tried reinstalling, and it is patched with patch 1.5
Thanks.

have you run some tracert tests? there is a great program called pingplotter that can pin point if the trouble is occurring at a specific hop before your transmission to a particular server. That is where I would start, since your single player is running fine, I'd trouble shoot the connection first.

use the Ulost packet function.

But, the problem is also in the menu right when I start the game. Even then it lags.

You never mentioned that before...
Single player settings and multiplayer are separate from each other so the problem probably lies there. I find frame sync causes horrible input lag with COD4. Maybe mess around with that and see if you can smooth is out.

No go either, still lagging.

Super long shot, but have you manually updated PB? It's that only thing that I can think of that is connects through the internet before actually joining a server. Other than that, maybe try a different video driver and if that doesn't help then back up your stats and reinstall COD4.

I have tried re-installing COD4. I will try again. I have saved my profile, but is there any way, to completely remove the game from my PC, so there is nothing left anywhere, to still comprise it?

probably getting into regedit and searching in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software and wipe out anything COD4 related after you uninstall it and delete any remaining folders in program files. That's pretty much it. If you have the steam version, then you'll have to re-download it.
Just be aware that reg edits are permanent and should be done with extreme caution.

If none of the previous ideas have worked, I would personally maybe do some hardware testing, maybe their is faulty hardware. Or what operating system are you running.

Well, it works if I reboot and start it up right away. No problems with other games what so ever.
I use WinXP SP2.

I had XP64 installed and could not play more than 20 mins before it would hard lock. I installed Vista 32 and can run 12 hours straight with WCG @ 100% in the back ground. Might be worth a shot if you have a copy around.

Hmm, I have regular WinXP Pro. Vista might be worth giving a shot?

Have you tried updating drivers for you hardware? From what you have said it sounds like you are having gfx card problems.

Can you <ALT><TAB> out of the game while it's running and take a look at the task manager ( <CTRL> <ALT> <DEL> ) and see what processes are using the CPU. Do you have any anti-virus software running in the background that might start up and do a system scan while your trying to play? Sometimes if you just step back and look, it's the easy things that throw people off, and they start looking more at the hardware. Not saying it couldn't be the hardware. Just a thought.
