As a follow-on from the posts in Sierra Bounds thread: http://67.90.82.13/forums/showthread.php?t=177560 - can I urge as many here as possible, particularly those who experienced the problems with these units on their 4/8 core machines, to sign up for beta testing the new trial units to ensure the problems have been adequately resolved.
The problems with the original HCC units was extensively highlighted here due to the type of machines we run, so its in our interests to make sure there are no further issues before they are released to the masses.
Cheers, Ady

...And this would be a follow-on to Ady's post. (Ady, please correct any inaccuracies in the below description. Thx. :toast:)
It took me a few moments to figure out how to participate in the Beta testing. I originally just threw an XP pro 32 bit quad on the profile I have been running HCC on. I was not getting beta test WUs....
To participate in the beta, go to your WCG account page under "My Grid" Click the "Beta Test" selection on the lower left column. This will bring you to a screen that allows you to map a given profile to allow beta testing to occur on. Click "save" and you should start getting beta WUs as they are assigned. I have to assume you'll also get the normal WUs that you have that particular profile set up for.
An idea....(Ady, check my assumption here.)...If you set that profile to work the regular HCC units as well as the beta units, you could see if you get regular work units with high page fault counts. Hopefully the beta units show very low counts....
From the WCG beta forum info I'm seeing, the numbers the guys are getting for scores look very close to my rock-stable Vista 64bit/ BOINC 5.10.28 numbers. This is very good and I think you'll see some very efficient production from these work units. (and yes, the higher score that goes with it....if you care about score.)
I think this may be a day to cheer the techs/programmers on the project and at WCG for getting this straightened out. Everyone wins when the project runs as efficiently as possible, particularly those we are looking for cures for.....
I now have on beta test an XP Pro 32 bit OC/WC QX6700, a T7200 duo lappy w/ XP pro 32 bit, and two of my farm quads with Vista 64 (Also OC/WC) for a control group.
Regards,
Bob
EDIT: I have one question for anyone that knows. I have a good size queue of WUs lined up. Will the Beta units take priority over them or should I dump the regular WUs in order to get some Beta units? I know the risk here is pizzing off the work servers into thinking something is wrong with the machine....

They do seem to run at high priority, however, I've only seen one or 2 of them go by.. and never at the same time. If they want to really check the HCC with dual, quad, or greater.. they need to get the scheduler to send out multiple betas so there is more than one hcc running at a time. At least.. that's how I would envision a more "complete" test.
I also had a day or 3 queue lined up, but I did catch one that popped to the top and ran at high priority.

Thx Hymay. I'll just leave the queue alone for now. I do agree that a set of four units running simultaneously might just be a better test.
Are any of you clover folks going to give this a whirl?

I'll put 2 quads on it, 1 of which that was definitely getting those 1/2 point results. I have a large work buffer so I have no idea if there will run before the other are done or not. Anyone know? Or can I force them to run?

I just had a bunch of WUs aborted by project on two different machines, is that something to do with fixing the problem?

Yep, that works and is a good idea

Yep, Beta units will take priority and go straight to the top of the crunching list, so no need to abort other work.

Doesn't look like a Beta issue to me - it has aborted WU's from both DDDT and HCC projects.........I would see if there are any issues already posted regarding this for Linux clients over at WCG, and if not bring it to their attention.

Thx Ady, I will report the results here and at WCG...

Seems to be a big improvement on the page faulting with the new 5.20 HCC units over the old 5.15 on my Clover, and no PF Delta either......

I just chased my WUs around with the suspend button to get two 5.15s and two 5.20s. I'll have results here in about an hour. I had a good size queue of 5.15 WUs in front of the 5.20s. (I'll crunch those later. I never met a WU I wouldn't crunch... )
This is on an OC/WC QX6700 with XP pro 32 bit.
