View Full Version : How much bandwidth does WCG use?

I have a bandwidth quota of 2Gb per day before it kicks me down to dial up, and its been kicking me down to dial up lately but I'm not sure if WCG can cause it so, does anyone know? Because I would really want to keep crunching at all times when my gaming comp is idle.
I only average about 6k per day, but it makes no impact on my 20Gig per month quota at all. My eldest son makes a HUGE dent in it, however.

wow 2gb per day. That must be nice. I only get 200mb a day before they shut me down a hole 24hr. I have 5 pc's running 24/7 and I never get cut because of wcg.
edit take that back I got cut once because I had 3 new units download a full list all at the same time. :(

WCG uses close to nothing, don't worry.
Oh and I'm on 540GB since January 1st, for those that want to know :p:

ISPs with no bandwith limits rock, I can use as much as I like as well, but I'm nowhere near 540GB in 2.5months :p:

It's one of the wonderful things living here. We have so many ISPs that they have to offer these services to be competitive. Heck, the 20/1 services with VoIP are going under €30/month now!

Yeah they are, but their not all hassle free. Got orange, phone kicks out every week a couple off times, their voicemail service is as bad as it gets and my dl speed is 17xxx at the livebox but rarely I get a download this quick. Could be most are capped at the server though.
Btw, most Dutch ISP's have a 'fair use' policy and not an 'unlimited usage'. They just don't complain as quick as others it seems due to the though competition.

Afaik, they don't mind people DL allot, if you're upping allot they will complain allot sooner. That was the way with my previous cable connection atleast, with the excuse that upload saturation was causing problems for people on the same hub as me. Idk if adsl2+ still has these issues, thought they didn't but not sure.
What's your dl speed with tiscalli?

WCG uses file compression. The amount of bandwidth used to download and upload work units is not that great. The work unit files themselves are fairly small. They vary in size. If you go to Program Files ---> BOINC ---> Projects, you can see how small each one is.

the adult P2P maybe? just kidding ;)
I am on 8/1.5 unlimited. Only way I can monitor actual usage is via a program. ISP doesn't monitor it nor could they unless I paid 'em :D

15 up / 15 down unlimited usage (i think), all paid for by work because i'm on call 24/7.

In the Netherlands, getting a nice upload will set you back way to much, highest I've seen in my region is Cable which is 10/10. 15/15 isn't adsl2+ right, must be cable or fiber?
I was thinking that anywhere now the ISPs are traffic free..but it wasnt :) I am happy whit that my ISP is traffic free and i am free of that :banana::banana::banana: :)
1-2TB/month 4ever :)
