Is the fan making the strange noise or something else? The fan can be replaced.

Good suggestion !
If you're reasonably mechanically handy and electrically savvy, you can stick something non-conductive (i.e. a plastic knife) in the fan blades to stop the fan and see if that makes it quiet. That's probably the cause, get a new fan of the same size, splice as necessary and go ! It may even just be dusty and can be blown out.

I agree odds are it is the fan, which is easily replaced. If the noise is a buzzy/grinding noise then that is almost certainly the fan.

Nope its not the fan.My Fortron is already fanless :) I mod it a lil bit :) Its a stragne chip which i cant replace.I know how to fix some electrical problems but that i cant! Its not the fan.A smal chip witch goes pretty byzzy :) It made that only in load...if i dont loa it it dont scream :) I open it and watch :) Anyway i will replace it soon....(not that month...to many things i must buy before it :)

I came home friday night & heard this terrible noise comeing from the basement. Thought it was one of the cats being tortured by the kids. The psu was dieing on the quad rig. It wasnt the fan either. Just got it back up today.

I knew they could make noise, but that was crazy sounding..lol.

Noise doesnt necessarily mean they are dieing, just that the transistors (or capacitors or chokes) are vibrating at a frequency you can hear ;)

Well it was a good excuse to get a new psu :p:

Yes. keep running it at Max. You can reconsider when you see bright light or smoke coming form the PSU then.

I agree, my Nexus 4090 has always made a buzzing sound under heavy load. I clearly hear a difference when starting a 3d game/crunch compared to idling.

But I say it depends on the PSU if the noise has appeared just now, it might be a bad sign. My PSU has always had that buzzing/humming under load, and it's most definetly not the fan
