View Full Version : Fedex Rant...

I know some people love fedex and some people like me hate them.
I purchased a used PS3 on ebay last Friday night. Pay the guy and he ships it out Monday via FedEx 2nd Day. Cool, never really had a problem with fedex before. Just the fact they find it funny to repeatedly ask for my signature even though i've signed those "Leave package at my door" things, multiple times.
So today, I call my little sister who gets home roughly around 3pm, and tell her FedEx is coming so watch for them. (They usually come between 3-4pm). So when I get home at 6pm she tells me FedEx never came.
At this point i'm frustrated because their site said "Expected Delivery: Feb. 13th, 2008 by 4:30pm.". So I check it again when I get home, it says the same thing. Just checked it after studying for a test tomorrow and now it says " Delivery Exception, Delay beyond our control"
WTF does that mean?! YOU have MY PACKAGE, YOU are RESPONSIBLE to DELIVER it to MY HOUSE. How is not delivering it beyond your f'n control?! The roads are CLEAR, there is NO SNOW or ICE on them. It was on the truck for delivery, how the F does it become out of your f'n control? Did the stupid driver but the truck in the ditch, on the perfectly clear roads?
At least when UPS says something will be delivered to my house on a specific date, it ALWAYS makes it, most of the time its even a day early.
Sorry, had to vent, now i've lost a day of folding on it because of fedex bastages.

I have had "bad business" pretty much with 'most' of the "known" companies in the field.
Surely FedEx scr*wed me up several times, even returned a package to the sender because ( so they said! :D ) I couldn't be reached to take care of the customs ( yeah imports ownz! )...they couldn't find me ( even though my cellphone number was all over the place...outside the package, on the package contents, in the paperwork for the customs & the shipment, and in their database ( I have a account with them ) and I leave my cellphone 24/7 on, and there was no call at all...
Usually the tracking details on their site are close to reality, roughly a day off...but with that customs thingy the other time... oh well 15 days at the customs...and then back to the shipper! hahahaha ( I'm laughing now...but I surely wasn't laughing back then :@ )
I have heard several excuses ( most of them are lame :p: ) from various companies...
I'm pretty much a demanding person, but I'm not ridiculous or asking for too much.
I can understand that sometimes sh1(f)t happens, but sometimes they just...lie ( then I get angry...and I just hide it, I might lose control and start...beep beep :D ).
Give them a phone call, and ask ( gently at first ) what's going on with your package :)

thats weird. I for one love fedex, so I'm gonna try and back them up, could have been an auto accident or the like. Its a shame that its late but id give em a call and ask whats going on exactly.

that sucks man, i know how you feel. i've not had any issues with Fedex..yet but i've been unhappy with UPS over the last few packages i've recieved. around new years i had somethin sit at one of the stops, 2hrs from my house, for 4 DAYS (1 of which was new years day and i understand that) and it arrived a day late.
Hope the stuff I just ordered doesn't end up like yours. Good luck getting it soon.

Had fedex driver not once but 3 times leave materials for my business outside of my shop even though we were open, found one of the packages ,Expensive cover material, rolling in the street. Apparently he could understand or read the big sign that said office entry one door down with a big arrow on it. Needless to say he no longer works for fedex after i called and chewed them out for it.

maybe the plane got delayed because of the tornados.. or the snow storms.. or something.
Or us customs thought there was something bad or no no on the shipment plane?
i prefer fedex. saturday delivery owns.

It can be frustrating BUT if you live in a rural(safe) area talk with the drivers and explain the situation. Maybe a garage they can leave the packages in and just put oneof their notices on your door.
That's what I did. No crime here, if no answer at door in 30secs sign my name and put in the garage..No more issues. They don't want to make two trips any more than you want them to.

Hell, Dave, that's every week. Also, I smiled at the wagon train comment. :) I hear Idaho finally outgrew the capacities of the Pony Express back in 2006 and switched exclusively to wagon convoy and crying Native American delivery methods.
People seem to hold a high level of contempt for DHL, but I've had only pleasant dealings with them in the past. FedEx has only managed to piss me off once, and UPS holds the record; they're always leaving packages at my door that look like relics from The Battle of The Bulge. USPS is my favorite, honestly--fastest shipping times, least amount of lip.

USPS I think is like all the rest..If you have good guys, you get good service.
My local people are tops. I couldn't ask for better.. except the mailman himself.
He'sa little anti social but I fixed that.
Got in his face one day and told him the next time he didn't deliver a package I'd take it up with him personally..
He'd come to the door.knock, not ring then leave, all in 10 seconds and leave one of those " Pick the frigging package up yourself 10miles away" forms.
We "understand"each other now..:D

You know what's odd? My package required a signature - and when I checked online (the day it was to be delivered), it was already signed!
This is while I was at work...wtf!? They forged my signature so they could just drop it off my door and finish their shift.
*my brother was home. He never heard a knock. The only way he knew something was dropped off was cuz I told him through Googlechat.

....it is in their control. Just tell me the truth.
Your rant has led me to a counter rant it seems...
I work in this business and I have to tell you that FedEx is far and away the best there is. In a quest as seemingly as impossible as small package logistics they really do a great job.
Delivery exceptions happen man, though it may be clear in your area on the day the package is supposed to be there, or even in the day preceding. The whole process is a network...and hiccup in the midwest can affect the whole nation. Try getting on the phone and telling a guy driving that he really must get there with your package while its snowing buckets. "Don't worry, your trailers won't slide out from behind you when taking that small turn in the road, you put your tire chains on right, oh the cops told you to pull off?" These guys white knuckle it on a clear day with idiot drivers out there...
As for the comparison of the two? Save your tracking ID's for the next year and review them. Barring weird destination locations UPS has more scans than FedEx because they rehandle packages (albeit quickley) more than FedEx. This equates to one thing... Damages... the more you physically remove and handle a package, the more likely (exponentially) it is to be damaged.
As for "no signature required" ... yeh that is an odd one... That's bit me too...
Fault FedEx for one thing only... that "Delivery Exception" explanation is too vague... Based on your dates, it was weather related... another hiccup in a quest that yearly yields 97%+ service rates

I could understand a delivery exception if it happened somewhere along the line. Anywhere besides after its on the truck thats supposed to deliver it to my house. Before that, I will and always account for mother nature. However, out for delivery, then not making it to my house makes no sense. Unless the driver was in an accident.

I had one once that was delayed due to a train derailment?? The bigger problem was it was an overnight box from the east coast (to west coast). So why was it on a train to start with…
One thing I have noticed since my move from Kansas to Texas is the difference in the shipping companies.
UPS still sucks, they refuse to knock and will only try to deliver item once. After that first try, they make you go to their pick up location. Which for me, is over an hour away.
USPS, for a receiving delivery, sucks a**. For sending out, beautifully.
Refuse to knock and will only come by once with the package.
FedEx, they actually knock! I have yet to been forced to find their local(ish) pick up location, so I don't know how far off it is yet.
I would rather receive packages via FedEx and ship them via USPS.
In Kansas, USPS was the only shipping company worth dealing with.
Never dealt with DHL, so no clue on them.

I've used DHL and have no problem, however they closed there closest office so I'm unsure how service will be from now on.

At least when UPS says something will be delivered to my house on a specific date, it ALWAYS makes it, most of the time its even a day early.
I had to pull this part out. Amazing that you have that experience. Yes, stuff via UPS always gets to me too, but it is never early. UPS "3 day" = guaranteed 3 days minimum to get to you in my experience. They literally sat on one package of mine from Newegg for a whole day and delivered it on the 3rd day instead of the 2nd, half the time it takes 4 days
At least our UPS driver is a friendly guy, and when UPS smashed up a box (surprise..) he waited at the door while we opened it up to be sure everything was there and was OK. It wasn't fragile stuff and everything was fine, however if it was one of my newegg orders I would have flipped out.

Its most likely the driver broke down and he didn't get to your stop. It happens more often than needed and it sucks....but I've had bad experiences with UPS and FedEx neither are a great currier.

UPS is the best in Maryland. I got my IP35-E (which I ended up selling to a friend) in 2 days, including the processing time. Ordered late night Monday (basically = Tuesday), processed and shipped Tuesday morning. Got it Thursday morning - which to me is very impressive.

Hmm, can you answer this question:
Do workers typically forge "signature required" packages so they can finish their shift? Cuz seeing a fake "Mav451" signature.pdf was very disturbing to me. The letters were a bit girly to tell you the truth...

Ok, now I'm pissed. FedEx's site today says "On FedEx vehicle for delivery" again, so I call my sister, expecting it to be there. Nope nothing. No "We were here" stuck to my door, nothing. They even changed the site, it no longer gives an expected delivery date.

Truthfully I believe it depends on your local drivers and management.
I know at my location this would not occur. The managers are fairly on the ball and we make every effort to get things delivered on time if they are in the building. If they arrive late to our location, they still have a chance to get out, usually 2 chances.
The sort runs in the morning, and only a small number (seriously less than 10) packages don't get on their trucks... and those packages usually go on another truck and get delivered on time. Then the late stuff comes, the stuff that either missed the flight it should have been on (the early flights), or the stuff that went to the wrong local location comes in. Then this freight is sorted and either goes out with the part time drivers (like myself) or the pickup drivers which come in around 1pm.
At my location we have a 99.98% delivery attempt rating on packages that come into the location. This means that 99.98% of packages that are supposed to be delivered the day they come in will be. As for them getting to us, thats a different story.
Many things can happen, at the sort facilities things do get overlooked from time to time. Things can go into the wrong containers and get sent to the wrong locations, but we do make an effort to correct it when this occurs. Most of the time delays are due to flight delays, either weather related or broken down planes. In the event of a broken down plane, there usually are very few or no extra planes, so the flight will leave once the plane is repaired. And as far as weather delays, our planes are usually the first to take off once the airport is able to launch flights.
As for "delayed beyond our control" something tells me that they are using the wrong delay code, especially since it was already out for delivery. If it comes to it, when you go to pick it up ask for a manager and tell him what has been going on. He will make sure it doesn't happen again.
Maybe I am wrong, but I think we have a good team at my location. However, I have seen and heard horror stories from other locations, a location close by has all new managers (<2 years) and from what I hear they have a much lower success rate, and the drivers get abused a lot more. Thus the drivers are less likely to want to do their jobs well and more likely to screw over customers.

is it Express, Ground or Home Delivery?
sometimes the drivers get lazy and don't want to deliver the packages or it could be a new driver that doesn't know wtf is going on just yet.

Then I proceeded to ask him where the hell he was the last 2 days.. "oh, i had v-day stuff to deliver". I told him I didn't give a :banana::banana::banana:, i paid for 2nd day, it should of been here in 2days. It was on your truck, deliver my f'n package.
I then called the 1-800 # and got refunded for the shipping.

The only reason I hate FedEx is because they require a sig for everything I buy. They come at 12-1230pm as well, and no one is home, which just adds to the frustration.. I almost didn't get my 8800gtx =(

Fedex does have some flaws. My MM order came via Fedex and, and just mentioned, they come around noon when I'm at school and my parents are at work. Luckily it was a Saturday the last day they tried to deliver so I was home!
Personally I like USPS the best, seconded by UPS.
