check out the new price of the Q6700.
I am definatly liking that one.
but its interesting to hear the new E8300 is finally on the table.
I've seen this one in the intel papers quite abit, but never seeen anything about it being released anywhere.
only the E8200 and E8500 are still MIA, the E8300 is a nice addition to the mix. any wolfdale is welcome to me. I've loved mine so far, and seeing new ones is always fun.

They only need to ramp up production on the existing 45nm product line. Im not paying 350$ for a E8400 which is the only model i can get hold off that is in stock.

Already have a e8400 that I love. Unless it kicks the buckett I'll stick with it, but the price drops in the quads are looking very nice. April looks like a great time to try one out. Q6700 would be my choice.

hmmm, i'm not interested in the 8300.
All the 65nm chips are to old.
the only thing i want is a good availability on the 45nm stuff. Their now asking insane prices because their so rare.

price drop on penryn quads when nehalem comes out? Q3?
i bet nehalem will be expensive due to performance lead...
april...
also curious about the e7200...babysomeofmycachedontwork? wolfdale
also if intel drops prices on quads too much then dual core sales will fall off i suppose. :(
but i am looking for cheap quad.

Okay, the q9450 as of april '08 sounds good to me, but whats with that fsb wall? I really hope that those chips will go higher in time, especially with that crappy 8x multiplier...

huh? E7200 has 2,53 GHz and a FSB of 800 MHz. that makes a multi of 12,65 oO I think it has 2,5 GHz

i'm waiting for quads to go under 200 before jumping. i'm glad i sold my g0 q6600 at $300 while i still could :PSome Q9300 (333x7.5) engineering samples are showing up on ebay, one listing shows it running at ~500MHz FSB and it looks like they are already retailing in italy (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CPU-INTEL-CORE-2-QUAD-Q9300-PENRYN-2-50GHZ-6MB-BOX_W0QQitemZ260209399290QQihZ016QQcategoryZ129315 QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247Q QcmdZViewItem).
It looks like the low multiplier and high FSB is not going to make for good overclocking on bottom end Q9s. Unless your board and RAM can do 533MHz+ 4GHz will be out of reach.

e8300 looks great. the 8400 and 8500 are too expensive for dual core cpu's imo.

Even so, it should still be good for 3.6 - 3.8GHz (which would match a Q6600 @ 4GHz) depending on your mobo FSB limit. If you want 4GHz you're outta luck though.

No US retailers have the 8200 or 8500 yet? Or did they get pushed to April?

I would be willing to pay extra to get the Q9550 just for the 8.5 multi, the 8 multi on the Q9450 just isn't enough.
If your going to push for 4ghz on a cheap quad that isn't a Q6600 GO, the Q9550 is the only way to go.

An extra $200 for a .5 multi increase?
I'd rather a $316 Q9450 @ 3.8GHz than a $530 Q9550 @ 4GHz. Call me cheap, but those last 200MHz ain't worth a dollar each. ;)

I'm going to pass 9450 and wait for Q3 9400 - same multi probably better overclock because it has less cache and most probably cheaper
IMO quads are still overpriced with nehalem around the corner I'm not gonna to pay for old architecture quad more than 200$
I bet Q4/Q1 09 "core" quads will be cheaper than sand

The 8200 and 8400 are so close in price in the UK, i dont see the point of the 8300.

i suspect it will take a little longer than that;
i hope quads are like duals are now for price someday..maybe when octocores come out.......

That E7200 will be a lot of bang for the buck. I'm guessing a street price of around $130. The lower stock FSB and higher multiplier (9.5) should make it an easy overclock to 4gig.
