There's a growing revolt among Microsoft TechNet & MSDN subscribers who are frustrated that they can't yet get Vista SP1 and test their software on it. This can't be good news for anyone hoping that SP1 will have better compatibility. While SP1 has been released to manufacturing, and pirate copies are easy to find, Microsoft is withholding it from subscribers until early March. According to the article, some frustrated users are upset enough that they plan to abandon TechNet entirely and turn to piracy

reminds me of a comic I once saw of some blind mice protesting the cats eating them.

Its a question of why not, not really about why complain.

You think MS did it to piss ppl off? There's a far better reason, don't bother asking.

I agree i see zero diffrence between RTM and the last refresh version I had on one of my machines. Im sure the diffrence is there, but nothing to get panties in a bind over.

I'm a technet subscriber and to be honest I installed the pirated SP1 version on my laptop .
Before it crashed 3 times a day while browsing the net , and when i left it on during the night it would be useless in the morning (black screen .. stuck)
After SP1 all seems good so far .

I really wonder why it takes them so long to release it .

Yes there are other problems in the world but they aren't the ones that are most forthcoming for some people. Do you mean to say that we should not discuss something like this simply because there might not be a tomorrow?

If the RTM is marginally different to the RF2 then Microsoft should still provide the TechNet subscribers with the latest code no matter how small the changes are so that they may use that code from here on out. If for some reason Mircosoft is withholding the RTM SP1 from TechNet then that begs the question of why? Do they not trust TechNet community as it might leak? Is that even an argument since it has already been leaked?

You see we do not know the why and that makes us wonder and come up with our own theories to try and understand why Mircosoft would not release latest SP1 package to the people that pay to have such data before general public. In a way Mircosoft is biting the hands that feeds it, and that is never a good thing. Unless offcourse the person who's hand is being bitten likes that sort of thing, which i dont think applies here.

Microsoft TechNet Subscriptions are an essential resource for IT professionals planning, implementing and supporting Microsoft solutions. It is your personal library of Microsoft software, Knowledge Base articles, service packs, security updates, Resource kits, and technical guidance.

Is MS holding back SP1? Now I am an MSDN premium subscriber. And I know abit on when we got the things in the past. This is NO DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE TIMES BEFORE. Its a storm in a glass of water.

And slashdot is always in front with their anti MS news.

Im sorry, 130 users complained? ´They took a few users, and suddenly the rest of the 100Ks of people complain? Haha...tabloid crap!

again, why are these people complaining though? you don't have to pirate anything, you can get it via windows update...

I don't understand what the complaint was about. If you click the link within the article which quotes why Microsoft didn't make it avialable, you get:

Note: this is paraphrased.
Many manufacturers have a lot of stuff out there with bad drivers. This concerns Microsoft, because if they were bad pre-SP1, they might be worse/non-functional after it. Releasing SP1 via technet et al while this is still a concern means it could brick a lot of what people have in offices. Therefore they are putting it off as long as they see fit in the hopes that manufacturers will test product against SP1 and fix drivers as necessary.

You're an ignorant monkey if you ranted on Technet or anywhere else against that statement. Sure, SP1 for home use is fine... but imagine deploying it in an office and finding out some of your critical hardware doesn't work all of a sudden.

So you're saying that pre-releasing via technet to savvy customers who *want to test their hardware/software* is a bad thing?

By releasing it on TechNet all those offices can test it out so that they can be ready when time comes. Thats how IT departments work, they test the changes first.
