Wouldn't it be nice to have a fast & silent PC with TV-tuner, DVD-player, sufficient storage, good sound card with quality surround system and a LCD projector.

I already have a fast and silent PC with a 8500DV (with remote control).

You could be in your lazy chair watching or recording "full wall" movies, surfing the web, playing music, playing games on an enormous screen, ... with only one remote, a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Just read the basics of a LCD home projector ... need more then 1.500 ansi and 1024 x 768 ... prices are  ... but the result could be awesome.

Does anyone have experience with such a setup ? Or more info ?

first of all sorry, no info :)
but sounds teh kewl.
and all the "teh kewl" is very expensive.
if you think its worth it--go for it.
in a year or so, i think people will figure out that the computer should be the center of your life, and what you are talking about will be as routine as a toaster. i am broke, so i'll wait till the good times rather than buying it now. :)

It's strange; some people say 1.000 ANSI is enough to play movies during the daytime in your semi-obscured living room (theatre doesn't have to be dark).
In that case you could have a XGA (1024 x 768) LCD projector for about 2.500 to 3.000 EUR or $ (hehe, since today currency's are equal to each other = easy) ... steep ... but not unaffordable

ftr : viewable area will be around 40"

Yes, this is the wave of the future... like the one in the Jetsons...

Right now, it's possible only for those with bottomless wallets. I'd prefer the image of a wide screen LCD myself over a projector, though inch for inch displayed, the project would be cheaper.

I'm personally working towards having a completely PC home theater, but the video out on current cards (though greatly improved over just last year) are still sub-par at best for serious home theater in a working-class budget...

sure is expensive ... but i get :
- a movie screen and movie experience
- a computer screen 1024x768 on a 40"
- a VCR (embedded in ati-soft)
- a large TV set
- edit : a large gaming screen

and i have only one remote to control them all (can even move the cursor with the remote)
... so 2500 to 3000 doesn't seem TOO exaggerated now does it ?

haha thanks for the link.
projector image won't be nearly as good as a high quality lcd.
the idea of a computer-based theatre system is great,
but if i was to build one, i'd get me one of those 24" LCD displays by Samsung, for example.

or a 50" plasma screen

17500$ ...

nah, i prefer pc and projector close 2 me ... plasma = just one remote more + difficult cable job or i have to get up 2 put a dvd/cd in the tray
