If this is true, Why in the world would anyone bother with the 9800gx2
PS. Yes, I do remember this somewhere. Maybe FUD.

I don't spot anything there that looks suspicious of fakeness. Let's hope March of 08 is true. But, more than likely, new tech like this won't be until mid-late summer.

I would doubt 1 billion. I also doubt 512bit, 16 ROP and I am sure a GTX would be GDDR5. nVidia is skipping GDDR4 like many DRAM manufactors.
128 texture clock? vertex shaders? They cant even write it correctly.
100% fake from my view, but maybe with some parts that statistically will be correct :p:
55nm i dont believe either. nVidia seems to focus on full nodes. So either 65 or 45.

9800GX2 and 9800GTX both in march? Why would anyone buy the GX2 then?
Whoever made up these specs should use some logic at least.

Those specs make no sense at all, especially release date. I don't buy that for a second.

The cost of gddr5 would be too high wouldnt it? Vertex shaders? I thought they only used unified shaders nowdays. I cant see why it wouldnt be 512 bit...a 256bit bus would severely cripple that kind of card...

One would assume they are prices according to their relative performance but who knows, I would say the 9800gtx is still far off and nvidia just needs a high end to compete with the 3870x2 for the time being.

cant wait for a new high end, the 8800 is to old to go buy one for a new rig and im no ati guy so 3750x2 is off the list

While I do agree that it looks extremely suspect you are wrong on a few counts.
nVidia used 80nm for Tesla & Mobile GPU's. Also the G84 & G86 were both 80nm chips. They do tend to test lower nodes with mid/low end before shifting the high end to that node.
GDDR5 is still a little bit too early I think. For the kind of numbers they'd need you'd be looking at probably Q3 at the earliest (perhaps for Ultra).
512bit would be 32 ROP's unless they've seperated the ROP from the MC, but 16 ROP's is still a step back from G80.
A billion trannies is actually quite possible, as is 55nm but the rest just looks a bit, wrong somehow. DX 10.1 would be interesting as they've panned it up to now.

Here's my speculative specs (I left some out):
GT200
55nm
800 million+ transistors, depending upon the core design. If it's a multicore part, you could say more, but it'd be the same # per core. 1 billion is pushing it, especially on 55nm process.
DX10.1
PCI-e 2.0
256 shaders
780 core 2Ghz shader
512bit bus
GDDR4 at 2Ghz+ (this is kind of a tossup. GDDR5 is said to be working quite well now, and could be implemented on GT200 and R700)
Release: Early Q2 to combat R700 (chances are both parties have early working samples already)
is the 9800 gtx the so called gt200 or g100?

Now the GT200
9800GX2 is G100.
:shakes: NVIDIA really ****ed up the naming...
I just hope they release it fast because i'm getting tired of nv milking the 8XXX series.
I had a cf setup with 2 x 3850 but they where even worse than one single x1950gt ( because of the 256mb per card ) They couldn't handle game's on my reso. So i'm stuck on this old piece of **** until something come's along that make's sense.
about the spec's, some of it could be true but also a lot of bs. I'm waiting for a official info

Like I keep saying all the time, we'd need a "rumor mill" section or something to separate actual news with rumors/speculations as I don't like the ongoing whining in these kinda threads so those who doesn't like rumors/speculations could just stay away. :p:
Its FUD, think about it.
1. GT200 is NOT the 9800gx2, that is simply a dual g92 card
2. The GT200 is a single die 65nm card, that has been confirmed from many sites
3. We know nvidia is skipping gddr4 in favor of gdrr5
4. It has well known how nvidia's memory interface works, 512bit memory would bring 32 ROPS, not 16
Just think about it, this looks like someone just took the specs from the 9800gx2, combined them with what we have heard (ie 512bit memory and 256 shaders from dual g92 and 1 bill tranny from gt200) not to mention we know that gt200 will be manufactured on a 65nm node and as shintai mentioned, nvidia doesn't usually go with half nodes (think about it, 80nm would have made a lot more sense than 90nm for the 8800gtx, and it took them forever to get them straight to 65nm)

Damn you, Crytek!

Damn you, Crytek!Well, he spelled the word meaning "1. a) A crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point." correctly, but the game is "Crysis"

Err... Just a gimmick to lessen the sales of the HD3870X2.
Get people wondering, "hmm, should I wait?"
9800GTX wont hit the shelves till june for sure.

It's slightly tempting to grab a 9800GX2 so I can stepup to the next gen... :yepp:

take G92
put it on 55nm
double the chip
viola 9800GTX
doesn't sound too farfetched, look at the 6800 to 7800leap. 50% increase in core clocks and 50% increase in functional units and the like.

I would definately. I mean think about it, Ati JUST released the 3870 x2... and it just beats the Ultra (GTX core >1 yr old card).. and to be quite honest sticking two cards on one pcb isn't really a fair comparison.
Nvidia have had so much time. It is only logical that their next high end will kill Ati (R700 is a different story, maybe).
For me all Nvidia needs to do is double the Strem Processors and it would be one incredible card. Ati's weakness is their choice of implementing the same thing (when AA is invloved).

i don't know which card to get 3870x2 9800gx2 or 9800gtx the gtx will be fastest yes?

well hopefully they are somewhat true. I'm hoping everything is playable at 2560x1600. Most games are now but a little slower then I would like, and aa at the res would be nice.

Yes, the 9800GTX will be the fastest. IMO upgrading from a 8800GTX to a 3870X2 wouldn't be worth it. In some cases the 8800GTX is even faster. The 9800GX2 will probably be a bit better, but it still won't be a true next gen card.

I just made this mistake for my 30" Hi Res setup. I can tell you i want my GTX back so bad. Now, i think i will get GTS as GX2 not reliable and 9800GTX will be too far away.
Is there any possibility of GTS with higher memory, may be non-reference ???

That's possible, since nvidia doesn't want a dual gpu high end, so gt200 could just be a g92 core with 50% more sp, texture units etc. Thing is, if that's true, then most likely the rv770 leak is true also since it does have a 50% performance boost supposedly and a 50% shader count increase would do it (hopefully the aa issue is fixed though)
