The thing is that my second nf4 rig psu blew up and I was searching for a new PSU.. It just happened that I found an Antec TrueControl 550W PSU, for very cheap... for something like 35$ if I'm not mistaken.

I've heard a lot of bad things about using that cheapass 20-24pin adapter... So I was thinking.. is there a way to mod the PSU itself? Or am I just dreaming?

Sorry if this has been posted beofre, but I didn't found it.

Thx!

I received this PM from DrSwizz (thx!) this morning...

Hi!

Sorry for writing this to you in a PM; The registration system to this forum doesn't seem to work properly so I havn't been able to complete my registration and thus I am not permitted to post messages in the forum.

Anyway, You want to know how to mod your PSU that you can connect to a motherboard with a 24pin ATX connector. The easiest way to do this is to build an adaptor for the exta four pins yourself;
1 Remove the last fourpin-part from your old PSU + the cables (easy in it is detachable otherwise you'll have to use a hacksaw).
2. You will to provide the mobo with; ground, +12V, +5V and +3.3V.
* All this you can find on a SATA-power connector (sometimes the 3.3V in missing).
* Ground, +12V, +5V is found on the MOLEX-connectors.
* Ground, +5V and +3.3V is found on the wierd 5pin connectors that looks like the power-connectors found on AT motherboards.
3. Find some connector(s) that connectors that fit the connector(s) that you choose from above or sacrifice one or more connector on your PSU.
OR
Open the PSU, detach the circuit board, find the appropriate places on the bottom of the circuit board. Turn up they heat on your soldering iron, those big lumps of cables and components take a lot of heat to melt.
4. Do the appropriate soldering etc.
5. Make sure you have connected everything correctly
6. Start the PSU without connecting it to the mobo or anything else, measure that everything is correct.

You might want to post this in the forum so others can read it too :-)

The procedure itself seem to be very simple...

The only things that still worries me is the load that will be put on the 12v, 5v and 3.3v lines... Is it going to handle all these extra connectors?

Thx!

dont mean to be a troll but you deserve a better mobo, and platform. prices are really starting to come down.

You should be A-Ok modding it. I wouldn't worry about extra load. Those TP 550's are decent.
