Hi i just purchased logitech z-5500 speakers to go with my Auzentech X-Fi Prelude.
Sinc eim a total noob with the prelude , what is the best way to conect this 2 for best sound quality?
I am use to creative x-fi xtremegamer but i noticed that the prelude has a Optical/Coaxial SPDIF Input and Optical/Coaxial SPDIF output?the ones that light up red on the back of the card.
can this be used to connect the z-5500 to the sound card?

you can, u just have to buy an optical cable from futureshop. there is a difference in quality i doubt its noticeable

Part of the goodness of the prelude is how it processes sound. Using the optical/coaxial out will have the speaker's control unit process the sound...bypassing all benfits of the Prelude. Just go analogue, man.

The DAC' used in the Z-5500's are not a high grade like the ones in the Prelude. Seriously the Prelude DAC's are better then most found in entry to mid level receivers and you would need a high, high quality receiver to have better sound with digital over the analog quality of the Prelude 7.1. If you doubt, try both and you will see or rather hear what we are saying....Hope this Helps.

Hook up the Z5500s via analog and let the Preludes Dacs and crystallizer do all the processing. That way you get the best sound quality.
