Hey bro....
Check out the Pioneer DVR-A05 ...retails for $190 as opposed to $315 for the Sony. Probably the best buy out of them all right now.
Write speed/rewrite speed = 6:43/36:27
4X/2X DVD-R/RW, 16X/8X CD-R/RW, 2MB BUFFER; Comes with lots of bundled software also.
:D I want one too! Can't afford it now.
BTW: Do NOT confuse this with the PIONEER DVR-A06

Is there any real standards set yet for burning dvds? I've held off on making the conversion to these because the last time I looked at them, there was no real "wrote in stone" standard for dvds yet.

I've been looking for a while too...the Sony is the best as far as compatability with all "standards"... but waiting for prices to fall even more. I want to put one in the new system I'm building out here.

Keep your eye on the latest releases from Plextor...I hear they have some good stuff in the works (soon) and they have always been my favorite. :D

I have an A05 too, great burner. I just decided to go with the -r(w) standard. Disks are cheaper then +r and the way things are going now adays, both standards will be around until the come up with something totally new like blue ray dvds or HD dvds..., so i dont' worry about it.
-r(w) also has slightly higher compatablitity with settop players
