Well this computer died today, the screen started flickering and weird disturbances on the screen allover - i can still turn it on and acces bios but can't boot Windows, and basically this video will explain alot for you:

Any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Damaged CPU for some reason? Has been running stable for 3 weeks though
Same with the graphics card

That's a plain black background in fail-safe mode

Well I don’t think you should be considering your CPU. If you can get into safe-mode I think you should try running prime95 to see if your CPU can take it.

But really that is some weird artifacting that looks to be your graphics card. My 2 cents here:
Maybe the reason that you can’t boot normal windows is because when it’s loading up drivers it fails when it starts to load the drivers for your graphics card. It could be that the graphics card is damaged and can no longer run optimized. Thus can only run in a low power/resolution state.

What kind of gfx card do you have? And what resolution is it running in during safe-mode?

XFX 8800 Ultra - 800x600 in fail-safe mode

vote goes to dead graphics card. rma it.

Madpyro

It was running at stock clocks, it was water-cooled by an EK block, as you can see in the build thread.

go on xfx's website and get ahold of customer service either live online or try and get a phone number. thats your best bet.

Did you tighten the EK block too much? Too loose? What are the temps?

Make sure your block is making good contact before going through the RMA hassle.

It's been running for 3 weeks at around 46 degrees under load.
cant read the temps now that i can only enter fail-safe mode.

Sounds like a possible driver issue, MAYBE ram, or the video card.

Did you try to install xp again? That might fix everything. If you have an extra hdd, that would help too, since you wouldn't have to worry about losing your old content.

Did you try swapping out the graphics card? Thats another way to see if its the culprit.

I would bet money its the video card though. That really sucks. At least the CPU isn't the problem.

If you look at the video you'll see the problem is not only in windows but also while booting so i seriously doubt a windows reinstall will fix it =/

any of your friends have cards or ram that they can spare you to test? i'd put my money on one or both that are causing the issue

That artifacting is caused by bad or damaged VIDEO RAM...

RMA the card..

It looks like you didn’t spread the TIM completely over the VRAM's surface and didn't make the best contact with the block. i always see ppl (including mine) use pads for the vram instead of paste
