View Full Version : Update CPU Microcode

Hey guys,

I'm currently busy abusing my Asrock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard and i'd like to run a 45nm chip on it. Now, the chips are not supported, but the board boots when a 45nm is inserted, though stuck at lowest MP value. This means that the only thing to get the 45nm fully working should be a bios update in which the CPU microcode is updated.

How does one do that? Impossible to do it on your own (asked Asrock, no answer yet)? Does someone know how to do it and willing to help me out?

We're talking about an AMI bios (which does not make things easier).

Thanks

I tried this myself with a dual sossaman board.
After lots of research and some "gentlemen"giving me apps that aren't supposed to be passed around outside the professional ranks I found that what was needed was to grab the "cpu dump"for lack of a better term and then load that into the bios, but the issue is you need a dump from a machine that the chip will work in with the chip in it..and I mean THE chip.
Now I may have said this all wrong as I was Dave the noob floundering around but I think thats how it's done.
Read this as a pain to do unless you are a pro at it..
Or one of the 100 at XS that can probably do it in their sleep.:ROTF:

So, it's not impossible :)

Updating the CPU microcode has been done, but it doesn't solve the multiplier issue. I might be able to enable it somehow, but I need to find a working version of AMIBCP or the new Ami Visual eBios program

But something says that's not going to be easy to find ;)

I don't think multiplier can be unlocked that easily, I would think there are hard configured in the CPU package, well... that's what would make most sense to me. I've red it somewhere too, ages ago :(

The maximum multiplier is hard coded into the cpu, but as far as I know it should be possible to change the multiplier instead of it being locked at 6?

@ Turrican: I still haven't found a bios editor that works :(.

damn. i've tried a little bit, but got no luck. sadly EIST can't be enabled on that board. :(

the bios recongizes the cpu microcode correct, but can't change multi.
even with multi 60 i've 6.

Haven't thought about disabling EIST before, to be honnest. I'm going to look into this when I'm back from CeBit :)

Might have found a part of the solution (thanks to asrock), just need some further testing :)

@Turrican: if you want more info, please add me on MSN
