I have two 3870's in crossfire on my k9a2 platinum. It has the 4 pci-e slots for 4 3870's for crossfireX but
What if i wanted to do 2 3870's and one 3870x2 (essentialy the same thing, right?)
Would that be possible? Because if i do 4 3870's I wouldnt have room for my sound/wireless pci cards.
I'm just curious if it would work or not.
Thanks for any info/theories.

CrossFire X drivers haven't been released yet, but it should work when they are. just run a bridge from card 1-2 and another bridge from 2-3.

I hope you have (or will get) a very highly overclocked quad-core to handle all of those instructions.
If not you're gonna be soooooo cpu limited that the 3rd or 4th card would be pointless.
Not to rain down on your parade...if you got the extra cash to lose then go for it but just know what you're getting into before you bench 2 cards and then bench 4 cards and don't see a huge improvement and go blaming ATI for weak a$$ drivers...LOL!

No no, I know I'm going to have step up the CPU if I get em, it was just a theory, don't think I will do it for awhile.

i could be wrong on this, but i believe you'll need Vista to even use than fourth GPU as well. at least that's the way things used to be. that's why Nvidia Quad SLI with the 7950 GX2 never worked the way it was supposed to.
