I have a 20" 1680x1050 monitor and i am into my gaming. Both these cards are on the same price point and im looking for the highest performance. The card will definately be watercooled and very possibly volt modded. Which one has the most potential for me?

Is there another card thats slightly above this price point that offers a substantial jump in performance. Im looking to be fairly futureproof for the next couple of years at least. And going from a 7800GT i kno both of them will be great replacements, i just want the most for my money. Cheers

what motherboard are u on and how much do like to watch videos on ur comp

if u have a 680i then the 3850 will perform poorly if u have an intel chipset or amd chipset then the 3850 will have full bandwidth, but if ur using it for gaming only then the gt will be better now i dont know if the 256MB will kill it in like 6 months. if u like videos though or image editing will want the ati card

for overclocking the card the gt should oc without mods very well while the ati will need a vdimm and vcore mod but then u can get them up to like 999core/1300mem or higher on the mem

There are plenty of reviews showing that HD3850 512Mb is faster than standard (non factory-overclocked) 8800GT 256Mb.

The G92 appears to have a lot of dificulties accessing the system's main memory because whenever the card's memory isn't enough to render a certain scene, it's performance hurts a lot.

IMO: if you absolutely cant get the 512 version of the gt, go with the 3850. i read they can be pushed just as hard as a 3870. 1ghz core clock sounds dead sexy :)
the 256mb on the g92 is such a bottleneck. specially for your monitor size

+1 for the HD3850 with a bios and/or pencil mod :)

256Mb is not enough for your resolution. According to several reviews, even @ 1280x1024 there is an big performance impact in some games.

ahh i'll just save for another month or jump into my overdraft and get the 512mb GT. Iv always had the midrange card, from the 5600, to the 6800GT, to the 7800GT now i cant bring myself to take the nerfed 8800GT. Prices are coming down. Can get a 512GT for £150/$300
