asus maximus hangs at 'checkcmos'

here are specs:

asus maximus formula(not se)
supertalent 1 gig ddr 2 800 ram, also tried gskill f2-8000cl5d 2gig
xfx 8800 gtx
e8400
corsair tx 650w

symptom:

all lights and fans come on, CPU fan spins, but nothing on monitor which does not even power on
the 'lcd poster' gets past checking dram but then hangs on 'checkcmos'

I have cleared CMOS to no avail
all power is connected - main, video, 12 v cpu aux

Please note that the CPU is the Penryn e8400

Thanks. That's what it was. I had to go get another cpu to put in it just to flash. But then it came right up. I posted here hoping maybe there might be another answer.

Looks good so far. I had to leave before we did any serious OC. But we did seem to be stable in memtest at 4.1 ghz before any tweaking, voltage or otherwise. This is on water.

Any hints on getting max oc are very welcome.:)
